Project Summary

The motivation of this project is to help students be aware of the importance to respect themselves, the others and the environment. In all our schools we face problems such as lack of self esteem, drug use, eating disorders, environmental pollution.
Our students will realize that they have an important role in preventing illnesses, living a healthy life and in saving the planet. We want them to be positive and develop their creativity skills to change for a better future. First we should raise awareness on all personal, social and environmental problems they face.
The five schools involved are located in different parts of Europe (Italy, Macedonia, Poland, Romania and Turkey) linked by a similar geographical position, far away from the decision making centers, in agricultural, disadvantaged and/or poor areas where young people have no or rare opportunities to travel outside their regions and have cultural stimuli. In some schools also young migrants and disabled will be involved to facilitate their integration process.
Each school will develop a topic chosen in the planning phase. The central point will be to exchange the information and the knowledge gained about the chosen themes described below. Also experiences and products will be shared within the schools, with families, the community and NGOs among all the partners. The preliminary activities will aim at getting to know the problems through surveys, questionnaires, flow charts and drawings to present the results. Brain storming, debates, assemblies will follow for evaluation and decision making. The activities will be carried out in the different countries keeping a constant contact with the whole group through the social media(Padlet, Etwinning, Facebbok, WhatsApp). The students will develop their critical thinking, communication skills (English language and digital competences), their creativity skills and their cooperation and mediation skills. We will work at a distance using the social media to exchange information (collaborative Padlet, youtube videos, newspaper articles, photos, posts, WhatApp messages). We will cooperate to share inputs and agree on practical ideas to be implemented. We will meet twice in our coordinating school and once in each school partner. Students will also meet during the mobility visits and will work as a team. Our aim is to let them work together with clear objectives in order to achieve practical results. Teachers will also be in contact continuously and will always update information about the expectations, the work in progress, the achieved results and their dissemination. We will organize a monthly skype meeting in order to be able to communicate directly all together, verify the reached steps, the fulfillment of the targeted progresses and, if necessary, modify the chosen paths . It means that a step- by- step monitoring and evaluation of the project will be carried out jointly by teachers and students as well through satisfaction enquiries (informal feedback, structured interviews).
The envisaged outcomes will be creative products to be shared:
1. ‘Substance Use and Addiction: Tobacco, Alcohol and Other Drugs’ (Republic of North Macedonia): a) questionnaire on substance use in the school, b) a handbook of norms having the topic ‘I am free’, c) short film on drug addiction , d) a march (‘Time to take action!’) in the city streets demonstrating their opposition to all kinds of abuses. Posters before the march, photos and video of the march will be produced.
2. ‘Let’s bike together’ (Polonia): a leaflet with biking routes of the region, short film, photos and posters with the theme ‘Biking together for our planet’.
3. ‘Too slim, too fat: eating disorders, healthy eating’ (Romania): cookery book “Healthy food”, theatre play performed during the mobility and filmed ”We are not eating unhealthy food!”
4. ‘Plastic? No, thanks!’ (Turkey): production of textile bags using recycled materials and fabrics (pieces of cloth, old clothes, wool, cotton, buttons, etc.). All bags (croquet tote bags, woolen bags, cotton bags) will be displayed, sold. The money gained will be used to buy a wheelchair for a local association for impaired people.
5. ‘Green me: from the earth to the table’ (Italy): organic vegetables from seed and seedlings will be grown, seeds will be collected in small bags to be distributed to our partner school for them to use in their gardens, a model honey bees and “hive” will be constructed, organic food will be cooked during mobility.
As a final common product we will create a handbook having the title of the project (‘Respect yourselves, the others and the environment’) in the form of a leaflet.
We will develop a personal interest of all participants in this project by strengthening the care and attention towards one selves, the others and the surrounding nature, reinforcing the cultural identity, the importance of team work, the sense of community and the importance of the nature.
