Project Summary
The goal of this two-year project is to give our students the tools to live together in harmony, to solve conflicts when they occur and most importantly, prevent them. Today’s world is a world in conflict at many levels and we can see that this is reflected in our schools. We believe respect is the key to achieve a world, society and schools where everyone feels included.
The four participating schools have identified similar needs and have already started their own paths to improve relationships at schools.
We decided to exchange our best practices to improve our strengths (experience, knowledge, motivation) and to develop pedagogical innovations to find joint solutions for the existing conflicts that happen in our schools and affect our students.
Furthermore, taking part in this Erasmus+ project will make our pupils realise that respectful behaviour is important not only for school life but also for life after school and for making contacts around Europe.
We need the project to make our students aware of their responsibilities as competent and social Europeans and moreover to boost and enhance parents’ teachers’ and learners’ attention and awareness for the importance of inclusion and respectful behaviour at school and across borders.
The main OBJECTIVES of this project are to:
-Improve school harmony by respecting schoolmates and tackling bullying, violence and racism.
-Foster inclusion in education.
-Raise teenagers’ awareness of their rights and responsibilities, commitment to people and society.
-Increase European citizenship and their social, civic and intercultural competences.
-Learn about other European countries and our common roots.
-Enrich education by sharing and adopting innovative pedagogical approaches.
-Give students the tools to achieve responsible autonomy and solve interpersonal problems and challenges.
-Bring up open-minded students, critical, confident and ready to cooperate in a globalized world.
-Boost linguistic competence in a foreign language.
-Use Art as a means to express ourselves and promote respect.
-Develop ICT skills.
The project will seek the participation of over 180 teachers (50 directly involved), over 2400 students (100 directly involved) and their families.
During the FIRST YEAR of the project, participants will reflect about the meaning of the word respect creating a survey for their schools and students will also learn to express their feelings to communicate clearly and be emphatic.
In the SECOND YEAR, the students will deepen their knowledge on the word respect. They will study European history looking for exemplary figures that worked to accomplish peace, research about famous peace activists and do presentations to present their findings. The schools will also organise debates centred on values to guide our students in deciding the rules for an inclusive school.
The project plans a short term joint staff training event in Madrid and four short term students’ exchanges where our main outputs will be produced:
-In Spain students will work to create a survey to detect how respectful our schools are.
-In Latvia students will learn to express their feelings and create stories with them.
-In Austria students will learn to value our cultural heritage and will make a respect calendar.
-In France the participating students will vote on the rules and values for an inclusive European school.
All the exchanges will have a follow up virtual activity to share and evaluate the students’ achievements and boost the impact on the whole school.
The project will have an IMPACT on schools, students, teachers and the local community by:
-Improving teaching and learning quality (harmony, relationships, reputation, family support) as well as social well-being.
-Strengthening of the European dimension and internationalization of schools.
-Creating strong bonds with other schools could lead to future collaboration in other projects.
-Increasing public relations and standing of the schools in the educational regions through dissemination.
-Boosting confidence, creativity, autonomy, tolerance, empathy, motivation and teamwork.
-Improving IT skills and competences, language, social and project management skills.
-Developing a positive attitude towards the EU and a sense of belonging.
-Inspiring people and increase their awareness about the importance of respectful behaviour within the community.
The project MAIN OUTCOME, a compendium with the best practices to give students the tools to solve and prevent problems, will be written and once the Erasmus+ finishes, the most successful activities will be adopted and adapted to implement our current approaches and our schools’ strategic development plans. Communication between schools and students will continue to benefit in the long term from more exchanges.
Last, but not least social inclusion is woven to the fabric of the school. The attitudes and values the students have learnt will lead them to openness to an inclusive society.
