Project Summary

REACH project is a step further to the cooperation, development and youth empowerment. The consortium of the partners we have created for this project are organizations that work towards development of youth competencies mostly via volunteering and education. Volunteering is one of the most rewarding experiences young people can get. According to the EU Strategy for Youth – Investing and Empowering “Showing solidarity to society through volunteering is important for young people and is a vehicle for personal development, learning mobility, competitiveness, social cohesion and citizenship. Youth volunteering also contributes strongly to intergenerational solidarity.” Moreover, one of the objectives of the same document is: “to mobilize youth in global policy-making at all levels (local, national and international) using existing youth networks and tools.” The project is innovative in the connection of three so far “unrelated” topics being it: development aid, volunteering and social entrepreneurship. In this perspective the project would contribute changing the perception of the development aid as such, and in the broader sense to change the view on reducing of the poverty in the African countries. Local people understand their needs much better than the foreign aid can provide to them by donations, however lots of case missed the human resources which could bring their ideas even further as well as the promotion. We should therefore look at the “old problem” with the new perspective and ideas which can help to solve in in a more effective and rather sustainable way.Main objectives of the project with an impact to be reached are: – Share the knowledge and experience of the partners in the volunteering management, development aid from the innovation perspective, motivation, mentoring and coaching of the volunteers (train the trainers).- Create a local awareness by inviting the people to take part in the info days/ debates and therefore contributing to the stronger ecosystems and the support mechanism for volunteers, organizations with involvement of the local communities as well (local info events organized by each partner).- Creating the opportunities for volunteering activities for the young people from Europe, helping in the impact-driven organizations in Uganda and Kenya (8 young people to be sent). – Spreading the information about impact-driven projects and volunteering and contribute to breaking the stereotype about “poor Africa” that needs to be saved by development aid.
