Project Summary

“RISE – Realities in Social Enterprise” which was funded through ERASMUS+ Programme, Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices Action, sought to provide a contemporary knowledge base on the effective, sustainable operation of social enterprises and create a relevant, new curriculum and learning tools for social enterprises. It was particularly focused on social enterprises from EU that were unsuccessful, on the basis that the obstacles those companies faced may serve as learning lessons for social enterprises that are struggling with similar challenges. The overall objective of this project was to promote social entrepreneurship education in the EU through design, production and dissemination of education. This project follows Europe 2020 agenda on social inclusion, solidarity, fighting unemployment and modernising education.

The project was based on partnership of organisations from different EU countries: “PARTAS – Get Tallaght Working Co-operative Limited” from Ireland, “CONNECT Association” from Slovenia, and ACT Group from Croatia. They have a track record of more than 500 supported social enterprises and 20.000 supported persons from disadvantaged groups, which were subsequently integrated through training and job-placement processes. The study was carried out by the team of four researchers coming from these organizations respectively.

The specific objective of this project was to promote social entrepreneurship education in EU through design, production and dissemination of educational material. Through engagement with over 200 social enterprises during the research, piloting/ testing and dissemination phases of the project, meaningful engagements with the target groups in their respective regional/ national areas has been achieved. The key outputs were the production and dissemination of a research report, training manual and educational programme. A group of 60 individuals have received the pilot training, many of whom are capable of deploying the concepts and information within their own organisations and to a broader audience. In so doing, assistance has been provided to those struggling with being in the labour market, mainly unemployed adult learners, with modern entrepreneurial learning updated with EU educational standards.
