Project Summary

RiSE-Rights, Students, Europe was promoted by 5 junior high schools for a total of 4 countries (Italy, Cyprus, Poland and Czech Republic). The participants and target groups (teachers, stakeholders, 12-14 year-old students – mainly with particular economic, cultural and social disadvantaged situations) put the emphasis on strategic partnerships able to trigger innovative and active cooperation and the exchange of good practices through the use of the English language and the focus on European Rights and Civic Education.
Topics addressed: European citizenship, sense of belonging to the Union, democracy, social inclusion, equality, migrants’ question.
Achieved objectives:
-New forms of civic and democratic engagement;
-Creation of a more positive feeling towards the European institutions;
-Greater awareness on personal, civil, political, economic rights (freedom, equality, solidarity, justice, rights, migrants) and understanding and promotion of the European values (education, human rights, respect for life, peace, democracy, political freedom, equality, solidarity, tolerance, self-realization, respect for other cultures and religions, family and work);
-Through the use of the English language people from different countries got together and stimulated debates and exchanges of good practices;
-Strengthening of intercultural dialogue, solidarity, mutual understanding, social inclusion, especially for the disadvantaged students;
-Signature of the Friendship and Cooperation Agreement;
-Production of the song YOU LIKE EUROPE, of the interactive file, of the canvas and of the Handbook of Good Practices on European Rights and Values and on Civic Education.
Approximately 25.000 indirect participants (families, local and national institutions and the European citizenship) were involved through www.rightsstudentseurope.eu, Facebook and YouTube. During RiSE, the following main actions have been developed:
-Creation and update of the website and socials;
-Corporate identity (logo, poster, brochure);
-Launch of live-streaming conference through the website;
-Distribution and evaluation of the questionnaire to understand the students’ initial skills;
-4 Transnational Project Meetings (1st Staff Meeting at Ist.Omnicomprensivo Orte, in Orte-IT, 2nd Staff Meeting at the Ist.Comprensivo Viale Ernesto Monaci, in Soriano nel Cimino-IT and 3rd International Teachers Meeting at the Szkola Podstawowa im Tadeusza Kosciuszki, in Wieliszew-PL; 4th in Orte(IT) at Omnicomprensivo Orte. -4 Learning, Teaching and Training Activities in Orte/Soriano nel Cimino-IT, Vranov nad Dyjí-CZ, Pera Chorio-Nisou-CY and Brussels-BE (this last one with a meeting with MEPs). 40 students participated in each study trip;
-Distribution and evaluation of the final questionnaire to assess the skills acquired by the students; -Production of the handbook, canvas, the interactive file and the song;
-Signature of the Agreement.
These types of actions have had positive effects in the participating schools, both on the directly and on the indirectly involved persons; this was achieved through a bottom-up methodology based on formal activities (questionnaires, brainstorming, conferences, seminars, workshops, study trips, training, production of tools like the Handbook) and on informal activities (cultural and sporting events, quizzes on the EU, team games).
The achived results have been:
-Integration between students and teachers, also thanks to the English language;
-Promotion and, consequently, greater understanding of the European rights and values and of civic education both in schools and in the ocal communities;
-Use of innovative and informal teaching methods aimed, in particular, applied to disadvantaged students who have cultural, economic and social difficulties;
-Increasement of the education and training quality;
-More sense of European citizenship;
-More strategic and integrated use of ICTs and Open Educational Resources (OER) in the field of education, training and youth systems;
-Strengthening of the English language and of civic skills;
-Signature of the Friendship and Cooperation Agreement that establishment a permanent network among the involved schools;
-Wide distribution of promotional and communication products (e.g. website, handbook, poster, brochure).
