Project Summary
The project objectives reflect our serious commitment to do something to change the negative spiral of exploiting the earth. We feel that we want to share the sense of ownership of the earth with our students. We strongly believe that education can be the most efficient tool to positively influence the attitude of the young generation. By the means of this project, we aim to implement small but practical steps to reduce waste and create green thinking both at an individual level of the students and also at the level of the schools. The project involves 6 participant schools representing six different nations from West to East from North to South, as a result of the colorful membership we can reach a great deal of schools Europe-wide. The project team comprises of Marco de Canaveses P, Tudela Sp, Hamburg D, Miskolc Hu, Krakow Pl, Kaunas Lt.
The “SAVENOTWASTE” project intends to reach a broader target group by involving not only the participant students but also other teenagers through eTwinning activities and what is more their families as well. We plan to do so by applying various social media sites that are popular with the different generations. The outcome of the project is to create easy-to-use toolkits for youngsters and for their families which consists of practical ideas about what to to do to have an eco-friendly home. Besides, the other aim of the project is to make the participant schools become media influencers who can popularise the concept of a green school. Again we use on-line ads, posters, social media challenges and podcast coverage to achieve this purpose.
The project consists of a theoretical understanding of what waste means, how waste is produced, and what activities must be done to reduce its amount. The activities also include field trips to draw attention to the tragic consequences of waste production to face students with the ripple effect of environmental pollution. During the mobilities there will be zero waste campaigns, poster relay, handicraft workshops on making environmental friendly detergents, cosmetics, workshops on how to give a second life to old objects and swap and share sales etc. Non-formal teaching and learning approach will be used to actively involve students. To accomplish the many-folded objectives of the project creative and practical science teaching methods will be applied, which can bring sciences closer to students and help them understand how they relate to their everyday life. The created materials including the methodology collection are useful tools for dissemination as well, so we will provide access to local schools, too. The indicator system of the project is well-grounded, measurable. The dissemination is already part of the project work plan and we publicize all the outcomes of the project for educational institutions.
One of the other merits of the project is that it makes use of the local expertise and the distinctiveness of each school and its region in the mobilities and the workshops the host schools will organize. The management process also mirrors the mutual collaboration where each participant has their own responsibility and where everybody contributes to the success of the project with their own talent and commitment.
The project is worth supporting as it gives a real answer to the call for action on environmental pollution. Plus, as an outcome, the project supplies the participants with both useful knowledge and practical ideas of zero waste movement and relies on the use of social media to disseminate the fundamental message of saving more and wasting less.
