Project Summary
The Erasmus+ project KA219 “Schools and Cranes Flying across Europe” from IES Siberia Extremeña in Talarrubias, Spain, in collaboration with Gudhemsskolan in Gudhem, Sweden, can be summed up as follows:The Erasmus+ programme emerges as an opportunity for our students to improve their communicative competence in English in a real CONTEXT, since our school is located in a rural area where the study of foreign languages is not highly valued. This project complements the Erasmus+ KA1 “Rural Development of the Siberia Extremeña through the learning of foreign languages and the use of Tic”. This time, going a step further, we will improve not only the communicative and digital competences but also the scientific competence, aiming at providing our students a high-quality teaching environment which encourages them to continue further education. The OBJECTIVES agree with the objectives of our school educational programme: to improve the students’ results in science, maths and English; to progress in the use of TIC; to foster new methodologies such as cooperative and cross-curricular work; to value the learning of foreign languages as a means of internationalisation; to preserve and value the natural environment. The activities are intended for all students in both schools. The PARTICIPANTS in the exchange will be the group of students, aged 15-16, from the last two years of compulsory education. We request two different six-day exchanges, from which 23 Spanish and 26 Swedish students and the accompanying teachers will benefit. The METHODOLOGY used will be based on a cross-curricular and cooperative method integrating new contents and foreign languages, English in particular. The ACTIVITIES have been developed by a cross-curricular team of teachers and have been included in the different subject teaching programmes. The activities are inspired in “the common crane”, being this bird a symbol of the natural sorrounding of both countries, and thus becoming the nexus between our schools. The activities, developed during the two years, will enhance the scientific, linguistic and digital competence of our students. The science and maths department propose activities which will enable our students to explain nature by using the scientific method. The digital competence will be present in the development and dissemination of the activity results, we will also use the Tic for communication. English will be the language used in the implementation of the activities and in the mobilities helping our students to improve their communiative competence. The expected RESULTS will be mainly measured in terms of learning. We expect better results in the subjects of science, maths and English and an increase in the number of students who continue superior education. The IMPACT will be noticed inside and outside the schools. Students will increase their motivation towards the learning of foreign languages and the use of Tic, which will prepare them for a global and international job market. Teachers will improve their methodology incorporating cooperative and cross-curricular methods into their teaching practice. Parents and the community will value the learning of foreign languages and the preservation of the natural heritage. The LONG-TERM BENEFITS will be to improve the teaching and learning methods in our schools, by promoting the use of coopetarive and cross curricular methods, the learning of foreign languages and the use of Tic as tools to achieve international success and widen the horizon of students from rural areas.
