Project Summary
The Sharing Methodologies, Attitudes, Responsibilities and Thinkings (SMART) Project was formed by the association of two secondary schools, leaders in their respective regions and belonging to different European countries (Spain and Iceland), which in recent years have observed a decreasing students involvement and motivation towards learning languages. In each center the project was led by teachers specialized in innovative pedagogies, aware of the need to develop ways to inspire students and promote the exchange of best practices through Open Educational Resources (OER), and who have been involved in the coordination of several previous European projects
Each school is specialized in a different area and the fact that this project is carried out transnationally enables the exchange of learned lessons, the generation of educational resources in European languages (which will result in a long-term and lasting impact among teachers) and the interaction between students and teachers, promoting the learning of English and increasing the motivation towards its learning, in addition to teaching methods based on innovative methodologies such as knowledge about collaborative work and multiple intelligences the schools will share their knowledge of interdisciplinar projects.
The partner schools wanted to achieve with this project the following objectives:
OBJECTIVE 1 (01) Increase basic skills in foreign language communication among the students of 2nd Bachillerato from CODEMA and the students of Spanish of VERSLO. (Horizontal Priority)
OBJECTIVE 2 (02) Strengthen the training itineraries of foreign language teachers (English / Spanish), giving them means to produce a high quality teaching (School Education Priority)
OBJECTIVE 3 (03) Increase the European dimension of the educational community.
In order to achieve these objectives, the project involved, among other activities, conducting short-term exchanges of students and teachers for workshops in each partner school, where teachers shared their innovative practices (O1, O2, O3). The language in the workshops was English and Spanish and they promoted interaction among the students (O1, O3). At the beginning of the workshop, a SMART Guide was presented enabling participating teachers to share the good practice in their schools between students and teachers who did not participate in them. These guides are available online in the project TwinSpace which acts as a repository and has been given wide diffusion in the media, social networks and websites and educational institutions, following the diffusion plan of the project, generating generous traffic towards them and producing their reuse by language teachers at all levels, from local / regional to European one.
The training received by the teachers directly involved in the project improved their teaching in innovative methods of cooperative learning and interdisciplinary work, providing them with new tools and ideas that will improve the skills not only of those students directly involved, but also of the future generations . After the completion of the project, the participating institutions are willing to promote further collaboration and exchange of best practices at all levels of the educational community.
