Project Summary

CONTEXT
The project adheres to the objectives of the Declaration of Bonn (May 2011) that promotes the development of music education in Europe at all levels and asks to put these policies into practice. Music can contribute to solve the social and cultural challenges facing the world today, promoting cultural diversity and intercultural understanding and to improve students’ skills and abilities preparing them to be the creative, resilient and adaptive workforce of the future.
OBJECTIVES
The title of the project is “S.T.ER.E.O. Sing in Tune ovER thE bOrders” and it is addressed to pupils from 9 to 16, future citizens of Europe, with the aim of promoting integration through Music.
The main objectives of the project, besides enhancing musical competences, are to improve language and digital skills, to strengthen European cohesion creating active European citizenship, to develop creativity and to implement inclusive education practices. Music is the main subject area but it involves other subject areas with an innovative approach, that considers music a universal language providing students with quality integrated, interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
This project will allow young people to come across the most diverse contexts and backgrounds, in space and time, building a common framework and to diminishing distances between countries; getting to know each other better especially during the exchanges, will help putting aside preconceived notions and promoting a deeper global awareness and understanding of the world.
PARTECIPANTS
The project will be carried on by three school partners from Italy, France, Poland. Even if we come from distinctive economic, social and cultural backgrounds, we share the same desire to embrace our diversity and turn it into a beneficial experience for both our students and their entourage.
ACTIVITIES
The project features 3 transnational meetings, 4 learning teaching and training activities and 40 activities divided into 5 phases.
In the first phase, “Who we are”, each school introduces itself through multimedia presentations and skype sessions
In the second one, “My Music, my Land”, students explore their own music and cultural traditions with a variety of activities: creative writing of aphorisms, traditional crafts, creation of video-clips and video tutorials, participation to local festivals.
During the third phase, “Your Music, your Land”, students get to know cultural and musical traditions of the partner countries by sharing the materials previously created and learning about the partners’ countries from a musical, geographical, cultural and social point of view.
The fourth phase “Our Music, our Land” is mainly dedicated to the creation and professional digital recording of the “Erasmus Anthem” (characterized by a verse in each language of the participant countries and a refrain in English, the vehicular language), the realization of the Erasmus CD with packaging and the organization of the final Musical Event.
The fifth phase is dedicated to the Final Evaluation of the project.
METHODOLOGY
The project will be carried on with an innovative methodology bringing technology into the classroom, which will support and enhance a collaborative teaching methodology and a project-based approach. Music, Dance and Visual Art activities, as well as Art Workshops will involve students with all abilities and backgrounds, developing creativity and promoting inclusive education.
The professional recording of the Anthem will give students an opportunity to work with professional experts enriching and supporting teachers’ knowledge and connecting schools to the real world.
English will be the official language.
IMPACT
The CD, containing not only the Erasmus Anthem but also the recording of songs and dances from all the partner countries and materials prepared during the activities, will play an important role in the dissemination of the project results.
We will use websites and the eTwinning platform to communicate about our project and to share the results among institutions that regularly collaborate with the partner schools (Rete Scuole Del Saluzzese, Below-Ten, ASCHOKA); through a large panel of digital device and media, the experience will be available to the wider audience with the aim of developing new partnerships interested in promoting cooperation and laying the foundation for future participation to Erasmus+ KA1, KA2 and KA299 projects.

Students will learn about Europe’s common heritage and diversity, strengthening social cohesion and promoting mobility; teachers will benefit from a European dimension of teaching, experiencing cooperation and exchanging good practices; families will gain a deeper understanding of cultural identity developing international relationships; working together with other institutions, the schools will build a collaborative network, connecting colleagues and professionals, interchanging knowledge and exchanging good practices.
