Project Summary

Because of the war which started in Syria in 2011, Turkey has been exposed to a dense refugee influx. Gaziantep, the border town with Syria, is the main city among the cities where refugees are densely populated. Hence, today there are about 500.000 Syrian refugees in Gaziantep. Together with their coming, some kinds of problems have started to reveal during the use of areas such as social and substructure. As the needs for substructure and social areas are planned, since the available population is taken into consideration, that so many people start to share these communal areas have brought some kinds of problems together. For instance, the most important ones are that the rate of water usage and need for it has increased in cities together with the population but this need cannot be met necessarily; socio-cultural differences in the usage of sewage, parks, hospitals, transportation vehicles, at the stage of adapting to a different country and society in refugees, various problems coming out at social adaptation due to lack of sense of belonging and becoming world citizen; and in parallel with all these, that the need for a methodological framework program appear in institutions and foundations which provide service, present source and usage areas to the refugees in the face of problems they experience. In this context, the necessity to create a special sensitivity awareness about the use of these services and sources that our country provide for both her own citizens and Syrian refugees at minimum level, without wasting, carefully and consciously has come out. Since this will be realised with the union under the frame of common humanitarian values among people who share the geography commonly during the use of common usage areas and sources, in the context of our project, we foresee to do an adult training that is innovative, beneficial, spreadable, sustainable and that can be a sample about the use of sources and common humanitarian values; and to reach much more people together with final beneficiaries of our project targeting to reach 1500 people directly through trainings, campaigns and other project activities. Our target mass is adult refugees in Gaziantep, as to partner countries Spain, Portugal, Lithuania, both Syrian and other refugees. Our project will give a reference to the attempt “Europe using sources efficiently” which is one of 7 attempts that have to be put into practice under the title of EU 2020 objectives and priorities and to sustainable growth: at the point of using the sources more efficiently, usage of water resources more efficiently by standing on a green and competitive economy, the conscious use of sewage, the use of sources efficiently by refugees and enabling their indirect contribution to economy. In the scope of our project that gains the beyond nation qualification with the joint studies to be conducted in Spain, Portugal, Lithuania, the partner countries experiencing the similar problems with us, first of all, the institutions and foundations working related to this topic will be visited and an analysis report will be prepared by collecting the problems these institutions and foundations experience through open-ended questionnaire content. In the direction of this analysis report, a training module will be prepared focused on “awareness and awakening” and targeting to improve the sense of belonging in adult refugees to the society they live in, to make them adapt humanitarian moral and material sources, and most importantly to enable all these to become permanent, improvable, spreadable and sustainable. As approach, “Blended Learning”, helping training practice to be maintained both face-to-face and through web together with the developing technology, “Interactive Learning”, “Webinar”, and “Informal Learning” approaches will be used. Besides, in the scope of the project, a methodological program will be formed by determining the shapes and elements of various methods to organise the training process and pedagogical technologies that may be beneficial to conduct extracurricular activities. All methods to be developed will be creative, new and original ones which have not been used by other institutions and foundations before at the adaptation of refugees. Public Awareness Campaigns will be one of our significant activities for the issues such as creating awareness as targeted in this project, efficient use of sources, adapting to becoming world citizen. By our 24 month project, our most significant results will be reaching the targeted point at the point of “awareness and awakening” while common areas are used by refugees such as social and substructure areas, water, public transportation vehicles, parks, hospitals, schools and enabling refugees to be individuals who have adapted to the society, have had the sense of belonging to the country where they are living and the world on the way of becoming world citizen by gaining the terminal adult behaviours.
