Project Summary

Environmental education must be more present at school instruction and it gets further more significant when students are given the opportunity to research, take action and contribute actively to their communities. Also, environmental education offers an engaging platform for gaining and applying knowledge and skills in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STE(A)M). We believe education must teach young generations to understand and reflect on the physical and social world surrounding us so that they become world citizens able to think critically, participate in decision-making, solve problems and take action. The development of this Erasmus project will fulfil our young students’ need to share their voice and make a difference together in an international context.
The partnership is composed by four secondary schools from Hungary, Belgium, Greece and Spain. Direct target students are around 150 pupils between 13-16 years old.
Among the main objectives of this project are the awareness-raising on environmental challenges and the improvement of competences and skills in STE(A)M fields. The students will work collaboratively in flexible teams according to their personal interests and abilities through innovative practices and cooperation with research, civil and academic institutions. Success for all learners, equality and diversity will be fostered by project based learning methodology and the development of talents.
We plan to produce the following tangible outcomes: reports on joint research and analysis on contamination of air and local water sources and coastal areas; creation of different devices to analyse pollution such as an electronically controlled box to catch fine dust or a robot to calculate the pollution in the soil, atmosphere and water; creation of QR tags on signs in a natural area including varied multimedia information accessible to a diverse public; open STEM school hand-on fairs for a diverse target audience; the Project’s website, a webpage on pollution, social networks and the Project’s Twinspace; OER materials such as handbooks, e-books, workshops, lesson plans, videos, photo journals; environmental awareness activities open to the community such as cleaning events of a natural area, educational campaigns, collaboration with environmental organizations and artistic instalments.
We have planned 4 exchange weeks, one at each country, aimed at developing activities related to STE(A)M and environment, in cultural immersion. These weeks will turn out to be a valuable experience for the participating students and teachers.
We expect the following impact on students: improvement of students’ skills in STEM careers and environment, especially among girls, ICT and modern foreign languages; development of students’ capacity of positive intervention in their own communities to protect nature and improvement of their interpersonal skills and tolerance towards different cultures. Working in international multidisciplinary teams will expose teachers to different teaching methods and knowledge, improve their skills in project management, in the use of ICT and foreign languages. It will reinforce the international dimension of our schools by building lasting ties with schools and teachers from partner countries as well as improve their knowledge of the European Union and the education system in partner countries. Also, the Project will contribute to the sense of belonging to our communities thanks to the support and participation of families and local actors: councils, academic and research institutions and companies.
