Project Summary

The “Talent of New Europe” – TONE project from ZID Theater- City Art and Performance Centre (NL),
Integra (SP), Social Community Theater – University of Torino, Corep (IT), Residui Teatro
(SP), Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium (DK) aims create a connection between new creative migrants, refugees and EU citizens through development of a training programme handbook , digital tools, matchmaking and enhancing employment opportunities in the art sectors across Europe. The aim is to help ensure that these “new talents” have equal opportunities compared to European artists and creatives on the job market of the cultural sector.
The project period: September 2020 – December 2022 and it is focused on the following three objectives:
● Develop, test, share and provide a Training Programme – handbook and a method for “new talents” – i.e. professional artists coming from a refugee/migrant background that want to pursue a professional career in the arts in Europe.
● Stimulating the dialogue between these new talents and cultural institutions, (upcoming) professionals of art schools and academies in Europe, most notably professionals, teachers and students in arts and theatre education.
● Knowledge development and sharing of methods and formats on the training programme with a wider community of creative professionals and policymakers in Europe.
The methodology to achieve this is simple in design, focused on concrete tools and activities, and using the complementary expertise of each partner. The main activities are:
1. a Training Programme handbook development through a pilot training programme with 75 participants in 3 countries
2. A MatchMaking programme Guide creation in 3 countries with 45 cultural professionals
4. The deployment of a Digital platform integrating all project’s communication and dissemination activities
5. 3 conferences in 3 countries for cultural and educational professionals in the arts sector
6. A follow-up plan for the employment of the participants, wider usage of the training method and a pledge by cultural institutions for employing creative migrants/refugees.
1. Outline of activities
• 1:Training Programme handbook for professional/artists with a migrant or refugee background
The first goal is to set up a pilot training programme in the Netherlands, Italy and Spain for a selection of 25 participants. The method is based on different art forms and is envisioned to be at first implemented in three European partner countries. Partners work closely together and share insights and knowledge.
The participants get the chance to join training meetings in multiple countries through an exchange training programme.
Profile of participants: 75% is refugee or newcomer, over 18 years old and proficient in the national language or English, and has a professional background or serious interest in culture and creativity
The training program methodology will be built together with the partners, each partner works from their own expertise and together they compose the ‘TONE training programme’.
Each partner can emphasise their own expertise. At the end a handbook will be developed that can be used by all interested organisations from Europe and beyond.
• 2: Digital platform (Sept 2020 – December 2022)
A online communication tool and a platform will be developed and used throughout the project, in order to facilitate the communication between partners, between participants, and possibly between interested parties. It should enable the community-building of all partners, participants and interested parties worldwide in the project. Also it should contribute to the knowledge development about intercultural dialogue, capacity building and international cooperation through the arts concerning migrants and refugees in Europe. It should comprise the following elements:
a. All partners and participants create a profile, enabling to communicate with each other during the project, including a discussion board, etc.
b. All learning materials are solely distributed through the platform, giving access to it and the use of the platform by participants (e.g. homework, assignments, online trainings/webinars for the participants)
3. MatchMaking Programme Guide , The goal is to develop a guide that will be explain how to connect new players – target groups – to current students and teachers in art academies and boost their network in the national creative sector. As a result, the national arts sector should also become more aware on the cultural diversity brought by artists from a refugee/migrant background, and become more open towards including them into the national infrastructure.
2. Target groups
• Refugees and Migrants
Each partner (ZID, SCT, Residui) should identify the target groups their ishould identify the target groups their in own city. We seek to involve a group of refugees and migrants from diverse backgrounds to foster intercultural awareness.
