Project Summary
TEACH (Team-Teaching to Inspire Creative and Independent Language Learners) was a project developed by Gladesmore Community School, London; IES Poeta Paco Mollá, Petrer, Spain and Collège Gérard Philipe, Cergy, France. These schools identified training needs for the development of new curricula in light of new educational policies in each country as as a key objective within this project. The schools collaborated in developing project-based learning to be used in cross-curricular work during a two year Erasmus+ Key Action 2 project. Within the project, 30 staff were trained through the use of ‘team-teaching contracts’ and developed lesson plans and resources to teach the two themes ‘My World’ and ‘Health and Wellbeing’ in a creative and innovative way. For example, an Escape Room Game was developed in France based on history, science, literature and problem solving. In Spain students made their own soap and recycled paper. In London students used technology to make mugs and coasters to illustrate our multicultural community.440 students learnt in depth about various topics within these themes in English, French, Spanish and Valencian. A larger group of students in each school were involved in dissemination activities by presentations. They explored issues about the world around them using inquiry-based learning techniques and Mantle of the Expert. The young people produced some resources for use in schools on these topics, including videos for listening comprehension and vocabulary development, PSHE themed lessons, drama presentations, films, models and other media using ICT skills were developed. Staff and students travelled to each school during the project to develop the work and to also work collaboratively to enhance spontaneous spoken and written language in the taught language The coordinators of the project produced a guide for this project about how to best lead an educational visit. Students produced listening comprehension videos to use in language classrooms in each school., Students also made a video of the development of team-teaching and the use of project-based learning in educational visits in each school. We are a team of schools and teachers who created a cohesive group of professionals and enjoyed the challenges and the outcomes of our work. We saw how our the confidence of our students grew during the project. Students became confident in using a second language to present projects and to talk spontaneously. All students showed an improved result in their speaking exams. We have created partnerships which will continue to work together in the future.
