Project Summary

Today, young people familiarize directly with globalization processes and their consequences: they live in increasingly multicultural societies, consuming goods from all the world, are connected with trans’l networks, on the other side they face also its threats such as growing inequalities or terrorism.All these aspects contribute to deeply influence their identity and work prospects. For this, youth need an adequate preparation developing a higher level of critical thinking & awareness; while they are prone to engage with global issues (migrations, climate change,etc), they also face 2 main challenges: – they’re not attracted by formal participation patterns directing instead their energies towards local & int.l volunteering where they experiment a direct impact- even if they are at the forefront in using digital tools for participatory and interacting scopes, on the other hand they receive most of their information about global issues exactly from social media being this way exposed to fake news &disinformation: only 8% declare they’re capable to analyze & compare data, (“Situation of young people in the European Union”,2017). Since they’re in a life period where they develop their personality, attitudes & critical thinking, it’s fundamental to allow them becoming free to develop their cultural &political orientation, prevent hate-speech & radicalizationWhile growing importance of global citizenship education is widely recognized, several EU & UN reports show that formal education systems worldwide are very slowly integrating it in students CVs.A holistic approach to global citizenship education is therefore required to fill this gap through the jointed presence of:-NGOs that bring specific know how about global issues &non formal learning methods -Communication Enterprises, especially social oriented ones, that bring an expertise about digital tools The project offers training paths for teens coming from different continents, including:Transn’l youth exchanges experiential learning through local/INTL volunteeringTrainings for youth workers focused on non formal learningTrainings on news production, to prevent the risk of fake news manipulation Development of an INTL board of young reporters to create & upload an online magazine Creation of peer to peer on line trainings resources to multiply &transfer acquired knowledgeThis approach matches with partners mission and :“EU youth strategy 2019-2027” (ENGAGE, CONNECT & EMPOWER)2018 report of the high-level group of experts to advise on policy initiatives to counter fake newsMain expected results:Strengthen partnerships among schools, NGOs & social enterprises to offer integral formation paths Promote a multi-perspective approach in news productionFavour acquisition of transversal and digital skills for youth, thus their employabilitySensitize public institutions and decision makers to invest on programs in the field of civic education, EU citizenship and global citizenship
