Project Summary

The main aim of the project was to capture the memories of ordinary people from Tvarožná Lhota (CZ) and Kúty (SK) in form of recordings, transcriptions of the recordings and photographs. In term of time, the theme of the questions was defined from the childhood of respondents till the significant year of 1989. Questions were related to everyday life, rituals, traditions and political changes. Requirement for the choice of respondents was only their age – they had to be, at least, at the age of 70. The emphasis was put neither on their social nor rhetoric skills. There have been chosen 7 respondents from Kúty. From Tvarožná Lhota there have been chosen 6 people, one married couple and one woman, with whom the interview wasn´t finished because of her death. An important criterion for the transcription was the authenticity. The elements of the dialect and colloquial language were preserved; the text was edited in minimum scale. Transcriptions and photographs were put into the book. Another outcome of the project is audio – visual exposition which comprises the photographs and also the recordings of respondents.
For this project Czech Republic joined Slovakia. Initiators of the project are two informal groups of young people (4 people from Czech Republic and 4 people from Slovakia), which are connected with the interests in folklore and traditions, inter-social dialogue and capturing the memories.
Cooperating groups had been sharing their experiences with renewing traditions already before the project has started. Both groups are deeply interested in differences between Czech Republic and Slovakia, countries that have been one homeland till 1993. The groups were interested not only in the differences but also in common features of the experiences from political events, which affected both countries. In addition, groups were concerned with the differences in traditions and dialects. That´s why the book is both linguistic and social comparative mean. The beginning of the project was in 2018, symbolically, 100 years from establishment of Czechoslovakia. The book was presented during the opening of the audio-visual exposition in Tvarožná Lhota on 2nd of December 2018. Each of the respondents received the books and also the photographs. The book and photographs were offered also to municipalities. Selected parts of the recordings, the photographs and the book in electronic form are available on the web page. Both local (towns and villages) and regional (county representation) institutions and tourist centres have displayed an interest in the outcomes of the project. The promotion of the project was carried through social networks, personal invitations, paper invitations and information sent by a post, local broadcasting, local institutions and both local and national press.
