Project Summary
We are two schools from Denmark and Spain. As both schools struggle with students that have difficulties staying in school and seeing the importance of education, we find it relevant to show and tell our students in a fun and creative way, that leaving school too early is a bad thing. As we believe in the capital role of family in children education, we also want to engage parents in supporting children to continue studying after finishing the secondary education. We plan to involve 60 students at the ages 13-16.
The project´s main purpose is to keep students in school. The whole idea in the project is to get students to understand the importance of education and learning that education is an important way out of poverty. Also the aim is to decrease the number of students getting pregnant at an early age and for that reason leave school. We also want to raise awareness on birth control.
In the second part of the project, we want our students to learn about our countries´ different history, focusing on the years just before and under World War II. Literature will be the main topic, how do we learn about difficult topics through literature?
Our target group is mainly our students but the rest of the school and the whole education community will benefit from it, as we intend to present our work to our colleagues and neighbour schools.
We will work with literature in The Scottish Way – or as a storyline -we build up the storyline from the bottom with relevant tasks and a lot of creativity- the whole classroom will be full of posters, poems, words and figures all related to the books we are going to read. We want to show that literature can actually move people from one place to another. Our results will hopefully be that all students participating in this project will educate themselves further after secondary school- and no one will have to leave school because of pregnancy. Students will benefit from the project in oral and written English as well, and as a result from that, their grades when they leave school in 2020 will be higher than average.
