Project Summary
“The Primary school students become citizens of the globe” project gives students from four European countries: Poland, Hungary, Italy and Greece the chance to become world citizens consciously. Only people with 8 key competences meet the expectations of today’s labour market.
As an international group that speaks four languages, we focused on developing communication skills in English. We want to create a space where students start thinking in English and formulate their statements spontaneously and showing self-confidence. An important means of implementing an effective communication process will be the use of digital tools that, when used efficiently, guarantee fun and learning. Students will meet in a virtual space following the security rules. In addition, we want to promote environmental activities that will develop among young people responsibility for the future of our planet. By exchanging good practices, joint training and developing lesson plans, teachers will acquire knowledge and new skills that will strengthen their professional position.
The goals of our project are:
1. learning how to work effectively in international groups and teams,
2. acquiring skills to operate new digital applications,
3. involvement of students in pro-ecological activities organized by schools,
4. improving the efficiency of communication in English by students and teachers,
5. learning and implementation of new teaching methods and techniques by the teachers from partner schools.
The primary school students aged 12-15 will be the project participants. The group of 100 young people will be directly involved in the project activities. The project will affect the entire school community of four partner schools, which is about 2,100 students. They are young people living in small cities (Fano, Kilkis), towns (Fót) or in the countryside (Tylmanowa). Teens are interested in information technology and they are active in social media. There is a variety of intellectual abilities among the students. Some of them are talented and the other are people diagnosed with difficulties in acquiring knowledge or emotional and health problems. There are also students from diversified cultural backgrounds. Young people use their native language efficiently, but they have a psychological barrier in communicating in English.
30 teachers will be the other group involved in the project. They show extensive experience in working with young people, but many of them have a passive knowledge of English and insufficient experience in information technology.
The project will last 21 months. As part of the project, 4 short-term trips for students and 2 short training programs for employees are planned. Each partner is responsible for developing and implementing the program for 4 or 5 months of the project duration. Activities between individual trips will be related to the topic of subsequent mobility:
1. first mobility: developing personal and social competence – Greece,
2. second mobility: developing cultural awareness and expression competence – Hungary,
3. third mobility: developing mathematical competence and competence in science – Poland,
4. fourth mobility: developing learning to learn competence – Italy.
The current project will be registered on the eTwinning platform. At the TwinSpace, pupils and teachers of partner schools will improve their communication skills in English, disseminate project products and share good practices. Teamwork and using digital tools for the project activities will be particularly promoted.
The results of the project will be: smoother communication in English, the implementation of known digital applications in the learning process, obtaining an ecological school certificate and strengthening the teacher’s professional position by using modern teaching methods. Through our project activities, we want to encourage other non-governmental organizations working in the field of education to apply for Erasmus+ funding. We hope that the fruits of our work will be the sufficient proof of the sense of reaching for funds that will be used to equalize educational opportunities for children and young people from rural areas. In addition, our project products, including lesson plans placed on the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform, will be used by teachers across Europe to improve the quality of their work.
Project results will be used in long-term practice by all the participating schools. They will become an example of good practice and innovative action for current and future beneficiaries of the Erasmus+ program. Strengthening students’ key competences will be systematically implemented thanks to the new methods and forms.
