Project Summary
The TASTE OF FUSION LEARNING project fosters the development and testing of an innovative learning path where Fusion Recipes become the tool for the acquisition of key competences (literacy, numeracy and digital) of 60 adult migrant women (low-skilled, low-income, marginalized, single mothers) through the Multisensory approach. Thus:
1.Supporting the setting up of, and access to, upskilling pathways
2.Extending and developing the competences of educators and personnel of the 4 organizations involved
3. Improving and extending the supply of high-quality learning opportunities tailored to the needs of individual low-skilled or low-qualified adults
In particular, the Taste of Fusion Learning projects is developed through The Taste of Fusion Recipes Lab: a cooking course based on Fusion Recipes where alphabetization is learned through the Multisensory approach. This refers to the processing of new information via more than one sensory channel. By stimulating multiple areas in the brain and employing innate channels of memorization, it plays on the evocative power of the sensory experiences, emotions and memories, as well as the application of several mnemonics so favoring short time and effective learning and obtaining an optimal memorization that favor those individuals with learning difficulties. In particular, in the realization of Fusion recipes to promote language learning, work is carried out on emotional and affect aspects linked to recipes. The flavors, the smell, the manual processing, the sound and the visual elements related to the realization of the dish go to solicit the explicit memories related to learning as well as to implicit memories. The associations of sensory experiences through the interconnection of ingredients of Fusion recipes with new ingredients allows the interconnection between elements linked to one’s roots (country of origin) with elements belonging to the new life experience, to new customs and traditions uses (hosting country) thus favoring an evocative and optimal learning environment for people with migrants’ backgrounds.
The Taste of Fusion Learning project attended results are: 1. Literacy, Numeracy, Digital alphabetization of 60 migrant adult women increased through literacy, numeracy and digital alphabetization 2. Social inclusion and empowerment of 60 adult migrant women 3. Competences of at least 12 professionals working on adult learning extended and developed 4. An innovative pedagogy for teaching and learning based on the Multisensory approach and the Fusion recipes courses as laboratories for the acquisition of key competences developed and tested. 5. A new methodology and handbook on the Multisensory approach for social inclusion and alphabetization of adult low-skilled learners produced and adopted .
