The main objective of the project was developing and consolidating in the participants the spiritual attitude advised in the motto.
Due to the pandemic very imporant items of the project, for example the lectures of the experts and the mobility of those of Margitta failed to come about, furthermore the pandemic made everybody – students and teachers as well – concentrate on doing their most important duty in learnig and teaching, so their motivation in participating in the project got much less than in normal circumstances would have been expected. So we could only realize the redaction and publication of the book, and the mobility of those of Pécel, but had not time to get any feedback from the participants about their experiences, save the personal meeting during the mobility that caused great enthusiasm for both parts.
The means to realize this target, the main, concrete product of the project, the book which contains the biographies and writings of well-known and unknown middleeast European personalities („anonymous heroes”) that in every day life and also in trying historical situations spoke out for and stood by their fellow citizens that became the target of attack due to their difference of nationality, cultural traditions, religion, social status etc., with two modifications, got realized.
One of these modifications was that the choosen personalities were not only of middleeast European origin, but of any nationality, and it turned out that the term „fellow citizens” shuld be changed by „fellow-men”.
Investigation in libraries, necessary to the redaction of this collection of documents happened very seldom, because using internet was much more comfortable and quickly way to collect information.
The realization of one of the main elements of the project the objective of which would have been to rise the interest of the students about the topic, namely the invitation of lecturers, experts of the themes, was made impossible by the pandemic, so the students in Pécel participated mostly in the collection of material and in few cases in the translation. One student made a drawing as an illustration. In Margitta, evidently due to the fact that the personalities chosen by them were people of their proper homeland, student were more motivated and participated also in the redaction of the material and the translation of it into english and rumanian as well.
One of the most joyfull successes in the project was the we managed to find among the acquaintances of the participants an anonymous hero and to make an interview with him.
The translation of the texts into Hungarian was accomplished, but the translation of the most peculiar texts into English, for lack of time, was not. Neither was – for the same reason – the appendix compiled from the short compositions of the participants about their experiences they had during the work.
In the works of the project in Pécel participated 16 students and 9 teachers, in Margitta 12 students and 6 teachers.
As regards the items to be financially supported:
We did not spend money to buy books, because we used internet sources, neither to invite experts in history and literature for lectures and consultation, because the pandemic made it all impossible.
In Pécel we spent the money on printing the book in 500, in Margitta in 100 copies and on the travel we, students and teachers of Pécel, – 16 persons – made to Rumania. The travel of those of Margitta, unfortunately, could not be realized.
As for the dissemination from the part of the school of Pécel we gave copies of the book to colleagues, friends and schools, but the process of dissemination is still in progress. From the part of the school of Margitta, an article about the project has been published in the daily paper Bihari Napló and the monthly paper Margitta és Vidéke and on the home page of the school up to now because the copies of the book have not come out of the press yet.
I consider the project, in spite of its only partiaI realization, successful. I am convinced that the matierial contained in the book integrated in the studies will be able to have an effect on the students, and may inspire them to join, in the future, in this new, creative way of studying.
A very important lesson we drew from our experiences is that it is more convenient to make mini projects, make them more suitable to the studies, in some cases let the students choose the topic themselves and make the products public immediately.
