Project Summary

Today, children’s excessive use of technology is addictive and it decreases communication,healthy life style and transfer of cultural heritage.On the contrary, it increases peer bullying and violence.This affects students’ academic success,and it takes them away from their social and cultural values.Rapidly developing technology has made children’s games almost forgotten,during which children play outdoors with their peers and complete their social development.Playing traditional children’s game is the solution to communicative problems,non-compliance with rules,tendency to violence,and not using time efficiently,addiction.Because traditional games’ benefits on physical,psycho motor,emotional,social,mental and language development have been proven by many scientific studies.With this project,we will revive the forgotten traditional children’s games not only in our school and Spain,but also in 5 schools and regions of Turkey,Portugal,Greece,Croatia and Romania.We will ensure that the games of each country are promoted at each school.The benefits of these games will become widespread.By reviving and expanding traditional children’s games and making students gain their benefits we aim to provide our students following opportunities;
-socializing and strengthening communication skills
-getting away from technology addiction by getting close to traditional games
-learning about the methods of avoiding obesity and diabetes by participating in physical activities and having awareness about healthy life
-practicing their physical and spiritual development better
-getting away from harmful habits and gaining good behaviors and habits
-developing their imagination, creativity, social adaptation and intelligence abilities
-increasing their social and emotional maturity
-gaining the ability to rest by having fun
-living the cultural heritage.

One of the other main reasons why “Traditional Games, Healthy Childhood Development” project was designed is to erase the negative effects of the CORONA VIRUS period on students and their environment by reviving traditional children games and their benefits across the Europe with the participation of 6 Primary Schools:
1. Spain – Colegio Mercerator (Coordinator)
2. Turkey – Cumhuriyet İlkokulu
3. Greece – Dimotiko Sxoleio Skoutareos
4.Croatia – Osnovna skola Vladimira Nazora
5. Portugal – Escola Básica e Secundária Dr. Luís Maurílio da Silva Dantas
6.Romania – SCOALA GIMNAZIALA NR 1
Some of these schools are multicultural with multi nations, some of them are teaching immigrants, and some have students with different kind of obstacles such as geographical, economical, social, cultural, educational, etc.Our project -which aims to strengthen the European dimension in participating schools,to increase cross-border cooperation capacities and to develop the skills of coping up with new challenges- will include students in the 6-12 age range,teachers/administrators and parents. For two years,108 students and 60 teachers/administrators will be involved in mobilities abroad. In addition, each school will be able to include students,teachers/administrators and parents in the LTT event, which will be held in their own country, without any number restrictions.
During the project,6 LTTs will take place, one at each school, and many more local eTwinning activities will be held.Within the scope of all activities, students from each country are going to; conduct small-scale directed researches about the traditional games by interviewing the locals in their regions, discover the traditional games of the region, familiarize themselves with the traditional games they have discovered, introduce games to the partner country students and participate in the competitions to be created about these games, design their own toys based on the toys of the past using simple materials, their creativity and imagination will develop, recognize the traditional dances, food and cultures of different countries and introduce those of their own country, see that culture at its source by staying with local families and their sense of belonging to European citizenship will increase, try to derive new games with the workshop activities considering all the traditional games they know.
The participation in this project is going to contribute to the development of the involved schools in the long-term because their students and teachers will have involved in a very rich cultural exchanging environment.4 of the 6 partner schools have never been granted for an Erasmus+ project. They are inexperienced about the feeling of internalisation, exchange of rich cultures, meeting with foreigners, using English to communicate for the first time in their life, having an idea about other European cultures, being familiar with different food-musics-dances-games-histories-natures of the other countries, and many things like this.Students of the partner countries will gain different point of view, will see new environments and cultures.
