Project Summary

One solution for creating a more equitable, cohesive, sustainable and competitive Europe and increasing the rate of adults participating in lifelong learning may by work-based learning (WBL) , due to its capacity to bring skills supply and demand closer together and address skills mismatch and skills gaps.

About 83.4% of all learning in EU-27 was job-related and WBL is high on the European agenda and national priorities, VET strategies, policies and reform processes.
In Romania and Poland , there are recent national initiatives of dual learning and expansion WBL.

The key factor to high quality WBL is to have well prepared skilled workers who can train apprentices. Improving the competences of in-company trainers is among the strategic objectives of European cooperation in VET.

The project “TOTVET – Training of Tutors and VET professionals for high quality Work Based Learning and Dual Learning” aimed to increase the professional competences of tutors and VET teachers and managers, empower them to deliver a quality training in work based learning (WBL) and dual learning (DL) systems.

Seven partners from five European countries, Romania, Austria, Germany, Spain and Poland created an innovative and integrative European Training, aiming to improve the competences of different categories of VET professionals involved in work based learning and dual learning.

After having been established the training Curriculum, the partners collected training/learning assessment materials from Internet and created new resources organized in an attractive form , which are available on the project website at http://totvet.eu/learning-resources/ and can be used by VET professionals and in company trainers for learning.

A number of 80 learning tools were created and made available on the project learning platform in EN, RO, ES PL, DE in the form of easy to navigate course at http://totvet.eu/online-course/which can be used by the VET professionals and in company trainers for online self learning .

The partners set up a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), an innovative pedagogical approaches of co-learning through co-creation, based on digital integration in learning, aiming to train the tutors and workplace trainers of providing a good quality work-based learning and dual learning.

Before the MOOC was delivered, a number of 17 trainers from partner organizations and associated partners were trained to conduct activities in the MOOC and facilitate learning . A Kit for MOOC facilitators, Facilitator Handbook , was produced.

The six weeks online course , was delivered on Blackboard platform to 255 tutors and workplace trainers recruited by partners from Romania, Poland, Spain and Austria or self enrolled the course. The course helped them to develop the competences they need as tutors, to acquire relevant knowledge, intercultural and social skills, language communication and digital skills, to provide quality training in practice-based learning activities in the workplace and in dual education.

The MOOC methodology and content, piloted and evaluated, together with the training Model and Curriculum are available on the project platform at http://totvet.eu/mooc/ and may be used by the trainers to set up new training on the MOOC or even new MOOCs.

To help the VET teachers and staff to develop their skills and competences on planning and implementing work based training programs, a training methodology was developed and the course was delivered online to 107 VET teachers, managers and staff, selected by the partners‘ organizations from Romania and Poland.

The participants developed their competences of planning, implementing and quality assurance of WBL training programs, assessment, validation, transfer and recognition of the learning output. They gained new knowledge about how to use the European tools to validate transfer and recognize the learning outputs. The Training methodology for VET teachers and trainers is also available on the project website .

To promote the project products, national seminars were organized in Romania, Poland and Spain and a European Conference in Romania, attended by 151 stakeholders and potential users of the project results.
The participants learned how to use the project platform and how to use the created training model, curriculum and resources to create new trainings.

All the project outputs , the Training model , Curriculum, learning tools and open educational resources as well as the MOOC Best practice Guide and VET teachers Training methodology , are embedded on the Learning Platform , www.totvet.eu and can be used freely by the tutors and workplace trainers, VET schools or trainers providers.
