Project Summary
The “Walking through the memory with Immersive Technologies” project focuses on the study, conservation, valorisation and dissemination of the intangible and tangible heritage of our locality through Project Based Learning and the use of Augmented and Virtual Reality. Elementary students will create a collaborative platform in which they will share with the national and international educational community the discoveries made and their dissemination through multiple formats. The platform will allow them not only to collect samples from the past of their local environment in a fun and intuitive way, but also to acquire complex knowledge by analyzing, collaborating, creating and sharing information through educational tools designed and based on an interdisciplinary curriculum proposal and a methodology based on Projects.
By increasing knowledge of material and inmaterial heritage and history, the project has contributed to improving tolerance and cultural understanding. Learning about the past has helped to raise awareness of shared values and the importance of cultural diversity for a tolerant society.
Thanks to virtual reality, anyone can achieve optimized knowledge about the human legacy, previously inaccessible to the common people. Virtual reality has the added advantage of giving a temporal dimension to spatial representation. There is no better value than that which gives a body and a life to what no longer exists. It allows us to go much further than the realism of what we have experienced. It allows us to discover the past, filling in great gaps in knowledge of our history, recreate the future, enrich our imagination and increase our creative capacity.
Our European team includes colleagues from Turkey, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Partners achieve the knowledge and skills to carry out the project, in that way our school is expert in in all related with ICT: augmented reality, virtual reality, coding,… CPI O Cruce that also has a relevant experience with ICT and is doing a big job in implementing e-portfolio to evaluate transversal skills. The School from Italy has experience in Cultural Heritage and coding, the school from Portugal in evaluating projects and also robotics. The Turkish school is expert in implementing Augmented and virtual Reality contents. In this way we think our partnershish fulfill all necesary conditions to do a good project.
The materials developed will be shared with free/open source licenses to promote their use and dissemination among the educational community.
We intend that as a final result, the following tasks will be achieved:
1. Interactive virtual museums
2. Virtual routes through cultural heritage
3. Chronicles of the place
4. Virtual animated stories on intangible heritage
5. BreakoutsEdu, Escaperooms and videogames
More than three thousand people can be benefited from the project so far. This includes 2 thousand school children who will take part in activities. 5 towns have been will be visited by the virtual exhibition. A hundred teachers received training. Of those, 50 have spreaded the project in conferences, workshops,…in the region or country. All of these activities have highlighted the country’s rich material and inmaterial heritage, and made it accessible for millions of people. The touring and virtual exhibitions have also opened up culture for people with limited access, including those with disabilities.
