Project Summary
We in Europe – Europe in us
Who were our heroes in the past, who are our heroes today? How did we live in the past, how do we live today, and how do we imagine our future? What are our common values? Questions like these are the starting point for our project circling around our common “European cultural heritage”, discovering our past and present, and creating visions for our future. We are three different schools from France (Collège Aimé Césaire, Paris), Poland (Prywatna Szkola Podstawowa nr 72 “Szkola Marzen”, Piaseczno) and Germany (Heinrich-Heine Gymnasium, Oberhausen) with different qualifications and backgrounds – bringing together different perspectives and different motivations.
We have conducted three working meetings with students, each focusing on one aspect mentioned above while always working on three levels to approach our cultural heritage. We in Europe – that means the world around us: architecture, nature and also famous figures who have influenced us. Europe in us — that includes our personal experiences and biographies. From short films and photo projects regarding the world around us, plays, interactive quizzes and displays regarding our personal “Hall of Fame”, to future visions such as designing Polish Euro notes and creating time capsules for the future, we have focused on creative- and student-oriented approaches that integrate digital media. All products of all meetings are brought together at the end. Due to the pandemic, the interactive travelling exhibition intended for the last meeting is implemented as a website, which is open to the public. In the context of our past, present and future, our identity and common convictions and goals as Europeans become visible as a red thread, letting us grow closer together as Europeans.
Ambitious, forward-thinking, and collaborative projects such as this are what truly shows “We in Europe” and the “Europe in Us”. They are the culmination of our past, our present, and our future, and a true representation of what it means to be European.
