Project Summary

The project „We Sort the Waste – We Save Nature“ aimed at environmental education and was realized between kindergartens MŠ SNP Čadca (Slovakia) and kindergarten MŠ Vyhlídka (Czech Republic). The target groups were 4 teachers (lectors) from each country, one class of preschool children from each country, and their parents. The project goal was to introduce possibilities of sorting and separation of waste and its connection to children through environmental education.
This was done through a playful form adequate to the age of the children.
Another purpose of the project was a mutual exchange of experience between teachers on both sides of the border and the involvement of children‘s parents. Teachers, children, and their parents worked together on the main outputs during the whole project. The methodology of environmental education according to the school education plan for preschool facilities was used for all activities. External subjects specialized in environmental education were involved in the project as well (f.e.: Czech Union for Nature Conservation, Museum of the region Valašsko).
The main project output was a fairy-tale book containing stories connected to the theme of the project. This book was worked on during the whole project and contained not only fairy tales but also fables. The book included children’s drawings and in addition, short stage plays based on the fairy-tales and fables were rehearsed and performed during the children-parents activities. Other project outputs included interactive education programs and sets of educational tools for environmental education created by children.
Realization of this project helped with the exchange of experience between teachers, parents, and preschool children. This was done by the realization of the short-termed educational activities and new ways of environmental education for preschool children. The project outputs could be used in other kindergartens in the Czech and Slovak Republics as well as in other European cities. The benefits of this project, especially in the matter of cooperation of this group, were significant and without the co-financing by the Erasmus+ program, it would be difficult to realize this project considering the conditions of the preschool education and the participation of the children’s parents.
