Project Summary
Partner institutions have decided to join the Erasmus+ program because schools are centers for promoting education, culture and social awareness, eg a Polish institution is located in a few post-governmental areas with a high level of unemployment and low awareness of parents about the important role of education and social and civic responsibilities. Financial considerations limit the possibility of professional and interpersonal development, raising qualifications, widening horizons and improving the workshop. For schoolchildren, participation in the project was to be an opportunity to work on the knowledge of English, competence in the field of ICT,breaking communication and interpersonal barriers. The priority of the project was to prevent school failures by increasing motivation to learn, also through the use of computer technology.
The project was intended to make students, parents, teachers and the local community aware of the importance of protecting biodiversity and the environment, to preserve these resources for future generations and to prevent negative impacts on people’s health and lives. Participation in the project turned out to be an opportunity not only to raise the qualifications of teachers and improve their skills, but also to improve the quality of school work, as an educational institution and to give it a European dimension. An additional advantage of joining the program was the opportunity for students to observe the attitude of teachers as aware of their identity as Europeans who benefit from the benefits of the European Union.
The project concerns the biodiversity of species on our planet, which is essential for the human species, its life and survival. Mankind introduces actions to stop the destruction of the environment. People are responsible for such activities as, for example, environmental pollution, excessive economic exploitation of the environment, poaching and cutting down forests. Through the project, we wanted to make us aware that every human being is responsible for the environment and ecology.
Students, teachers, parents involved in the project through a variety of activities, such as art works, photographic works, multimedia presentations, workshops, tours, thematic articles and theatrical and musical performances acquired knowledge and experience in the field of ecology and environmental protection, raised the level of tolerance, as well as knowledge of other cultures and traditions, ecological problems. They shared their knowledge with colleagues, parents, teachers and the local community.
The project’s coordinator is the primary school in Kuźnica Czarnkowska. The school is located in a rural area. It with 180 students aged from 6 to 16 years. It is the smallest school among those taking part in the project. The second school participating in the project is the Italian Istituto Comprensivo from Rome – a large municipal school, attended by students aged between 5 and 15. Students of this school come mainly from emigrant circles. Due to the origin of children, the greatest emphasis is put on improving language competences, learning Italian and English. Students with disabilities and dysfunctions also take part in the Istituto Compresivo. The school is focused on promoting ecology, environmental protection, as well as tolerance, the fight against racism. The third institution is the school from the Turkish Ankara – Refika Aksoy İlkokulu. Age range among students from 4 to 11 years. The aim of the Turkish school’s participation in the Erasmus + program was to raise awareness of the cultural heritage of European partners and raise teacher and student competences through contact with teachers and students from partner countries, because the school management depends on raising the school’s prestige among other educational institutions in Ankara.
The fourth institution taking part in the project is the Turkish – Ankara Millī Eğitim Müdürlüğü. It is responsible for planning, coordinating and managing all educational and training activities in 25 districts in Ankara. The organization has a number of duties: management, education and training for teachers, budget and investments, research, control and statistics, and inspections.
Participation in the project has brought many long-term benefits to partner institution, including professionalization of staff, improvement of interpersonal competences, professional and linguistic qualifications of project participants, enriched the work workshop with new teaching methods, teaching materials motivated to learn, good practices and innovations were introduced, which influenced students’ key competences and deepening their sense of European identity. In addition, established contacts with foreign partners have opened opportunities for further cooperation. The participation of schools raised the prestige of partner institutions in the eyes of the local community.
