Project Summary
Gender inequality remains a major problem of the European Union despite efforts at European level. The causes are different: education, which places the woman in a position to be subject to the will and power of the man; education received in childhood and stereotypical thinking (little girls have to play with dolls and boys with cars); distorted interpretations of religious texts; the influence of the media or the fashion industry, which build false value systems; the views of politicians, who support the inferiority of women; stereotypes such as “nice/weak sex” and “strong sex”. The effects of these factual states are: the acceptance by women of low standards generated by false value systems; acceptance of social / financial dependence on men; low self-esteem, lack of confidence in their own strengths, acceptance of a humble condition, respecting the roles that men pre-establish – careers, carriers, housewives. Although the situation seems to have improved in recent years, at least at the surface level, we are still witnessing a wide variety of forms of discrimination and abuse against women.
The specific objectives:
1. to promote the mentality of gender equality in male and female students with at least 70%
2. promoting female models in all cultures – at least 50 examples
3. to analyze the changes in the mentality related to sex from the past to the present in partner countries
4. to raise awareness of women’s rights and ways to protect them
5. to stimulate civic involvement of students and have at least 40% of the participants involved in social campaigns
6. to support intercultural awareness and intercultural learning
7. to develop the soft skills – communication of the students, creative thinking, critical thinking, teamwork, motivation etc.
We have planned 5 LTTA
C1 – Women’s mission – past and present (mention of how women are perceived in each of cultures)
C2 – Powerful women’s figures – examples of leading women’s figures in various fields
C3 – Women’s rights – national and international laws, pioneers of women’s rights, national services
C4 – The women – victim of violence – domestic violence, forced marriage, trafficking
C5 – Fighting for women’s rights – a school-based monitoring service that organizes a campaign
All LTTA will be integrated with virtual exchanges.
As result: initial and final question sheets to survey students’ attitudes regarding gender equality, brochures and presentations with models of women from different cultures and countries, documentary films about pioneering figures in the protection of women’s rights, interviews with successful women, statistics and reports on gender discrimination and violence against women, student campaigns, works of art – photos, posters, videos, broadcast conferences.
The main working group of the project will be selected based on the students letter of intent and the teachers recommendations.
This Erasmus project will bring benefits for all partner institutions, at all levels.
