Project Summary
The W4GEA project aims at improving the social and labour market integration of young women with low basic skills by improving youth workers’ capacity to engage them in grassroots projects for the sustainable development of local communities. Young women living in post-conflict countries or in countries facing profound social transformation will become real changemakers in their communities and countries, by experiencing the setting up of a grassroot project and gaining skills to further develop it. In fact, young women suffer from particularly challenging set of educational barriers, due to cultural, political, social reasons that leave them out of education or job market: nearly 14% of world’s young women are unemployed (UNESCO, 2016) and are considered globally as a vulnerable youth category, having limited knowledge of their civic and political rights, including the capacity to express their political and social views (UN Interpeace). On the other hand, it has been shown by numerous studies and field researches that working with young women becomes particularly effective thanks to the social role played by women, since when they have the opportunity and the skills to do it, women take the lead of the social change (UN Womenwatch Organization). W4GEA is based on three training courses for Youth Workers (YW Mobility) that will take place in Iraq, Colombia, India, on the topics of:- digital skills & cultural heritage- entrepreneurial skills & social innovation- peacebuilding & participatory democracyAt the end of each TC, one Experienced Youth Worker will stay on the field to develop together with host organisation, local communities and stakeholders, a grassroots project, involving at least 20 local young women. At the same time, in the other countries, local engagement activities will be carried out by the trained youth workers on the same topics. In the last phase of the project there will be an international Youth Exchange, aimed at developing a follow-up and sustainability plan for international cooperation of young female change-makers. Expected Results- Raised awareness on the condition of young women, specifically on those living in post war or in deep social change countries and on the opportunities given by education on innovative aspects, through non-formal learning tools.- Created a community of people interested and active in the topic of gender equality.- Created new opportunities to further develop the project’s activities.- Gained trust in the potential of youth-based projects by policy makers- Handbook of best practices- 7 Digital Storytelling on the local activities- 1 project website and platform, used as a tool of exchange between partners, media & content library for learners, forum groups between participants.
