The project goals were: developing cooperation among the project schools, enriching teaching and innovative skills, arousing curiosity, getting to know the surrounding world, developing language, interpersonal, communication, ITC skills and key skills. A subject of this enterprise influenced on our students’ cultural, emotional, social and linguistic development. Taking part in the project was a chance for the students with variety of intellectual and mental disorders. It enabled them to be successful, present themselves in school and local community. The project ‘’Green Europe’’ was aimed at pupils, also the disabled ones, from European schools, teachers and local communities connected with them. The project tasks were adjusted to their needs and possibilities. A subject of this enterprise was to get familiar and show the unknown places of special natural, illuminating and educational values- enchanting – the partners’ Small Homelands. ‘’Green Europe’’ is for us a small area of primeval nature, often not really know, a safe, diverse and ideal place to reach the life goals, without communication and cultural barriers. We wanted the participants to show their creativity and creative interpretation in this field. Each of the partner got familiar with its ‘green Europe’ and demonstrated it to the rest of the participants. Realising the tasks‘’ We will name again the old forests’’, ‘’Magic Nooks’’ we created a picture of green Europe, which was a summary of our activity. It included students’ diverse products, depicting, discovered, known and creatively interpreted areas by the students. We handed over a message to the European Parliament : ‘’Save green Europe for the future generations’’. The beauty of these places crucial for local communities in the terms of cultural, historical, natural, artistic values was presented. We focused on discovering and getting familiar with those places as well as showing them to the project participants. They were presented to the communities in the project countries. We carried out educational classes with a participation of the teachers and students from the partner countries. The teachers exchanged their experiences, prepared innovative, lesson plans also for disabled students which were mutually carried out. We got to know the teachers with TOC method and organized workshops and a conference dedicated to use TOC tools. The teachers exchanged their experiences, elaborated innovative lessons plans that are jointly realized. They improved their English skills owing to a language course organized within the project. Art- literary competitions, vernissages, happenings, educational projects, debates were held to get information about the places and their role in the life of local communities. We got to know green Europe in a multi –sensory way. Depicting European natural landscapes, we showed a mutual dependence of a human being and the Nature. The participants also got to know the most outstanding artistic, musical and literary works referring to Nature beauty. We used art to express ourselves emotionally. We aspired to develop abilities to express and recognize emotions by organizing classes of interpersonal communication and socially – minded conduct development. The project aims were achieved by means of innovative and active methods such as: a work group, project realizations, a brainstorm and a mental map.
5 primary schools from Poland, Italy, Lithuania and Slovenia were involved in the project. The students of the partner schools and their teachers were main beneficiaries and performers of the project. The effects of the students and their teachers works were shown with a participation of parents, local and education authorities as well as mass media. The project aims and its results were presented during the meetings with the country, education and local authorities. The final products performed and collected in school libraries, on educational webpages, disseminated among teachers in other schools and pedagogy students served them to enrich an educational base, to develop general knowledge about the project countries. The students established individual contacts with their project peers and would continue doing them after the project was over. The participants via mutual contacts got to know a specificity of educational systems in the countries and the knowledge they acquired transferred onto own ground. Due to it they improved a teaching –learning process in the project countries. Green Europe that we discovered in the project broaden the participants horizons, enrich our knowledge about Europe. Owing to the project contacts, we took advantage of the experience of those countries in the field of psychological-educational assistance.
