Project Summary

Nowadays, despite the differences among the European peoples, someone could talk about a “European civilization” with a lot of common elements throughout the whole continent. From the Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations to the modern technological age, we can behold some crucial points which make up the physiognomy of the common “European civilization”. Countries with a long tradition in Philosophy, Art, Literature, Science, Technology each contributes to the creation of the common “European civilization”. The awareness of a “Europe united in diversity” will impel young people of our era to comprehend the common multicultural future of Europe without eliminating the cultural differences. The five countries involved in the project, Greece, Finland, Spain, Cyprus and Czech Slovakia , have the same vision about the multicultural future of Europe. In this project, several cultural figures and scientific/technological milestones are considered to achieve a global comprehension of our past, present and future. Among a wide range of relevant figures and facts, we have chosen the following: Aristotle as the cornerstone in the beginning of formal logic, Cervantes and the archetype of the Quixote as universal character, Czech Slovakia for the music that travels around the world for centuries, Nokia as the representative of technological revolution in late twentieth century and finally Cyprus as the only divided country in Europe. Our project target is to create European citizens who will accept our multicultural reality and learn how to move around Europe feeling that they belong to Europe, and not just to a part of it. The way we are going to work using gamification allows us to offer the project results for teaching these European figures to other schools . These results will remain over time and can be used every year from other countries. Using new methodologies as gamification and new technologies as QR codes, augmented reality or collaborative work, we want to encourage our students to learn more about our multicultural European reality taking into account our common heritage. The project turns around a game called “Know Europe through its main figures” played at each Learning Teaching Training meeting. In the game, an important figure of each country and the context of the period in which that person lived or the event happened are studied. With this, the following aspects stand out: History, cultural aspects, Science and Technology, life and work of the character. For example, Nokia (as new technology) helps to join the past with the present in a different and amazing way. In addition, with the objective that the students know the most important aspects of the participant countries, they also work on the most important aspects of the host schools (geography, history, natural parks, monuments) at each meeting.
