Project Summary

Promoting European entrepreneurship among students with the aim of integrating entrepreneurship in the school curriculum. At our school we recently started with offering students the possibility of following an extra curricular course of entrepreneurship. This course is a theoretical based module and with this Erasmus project we want to add a practical component to it. At our partner school is also an interest to start with lessons aimed at entrepreneurship.

Students in grades 3 and 4 (age 15-16 yrs) who have the topic of Economics in their curriculum, or in the case of Baken Park Lyceum follow, the extra curricular course European Business Competence* License (EBC*L) can apply for this Erasmus project. With this Erasmus project we want to add a theoretical and a practical module to the topic of Economics and/or EBC*L course. This theoretical module will teach students about general entrepreneurship and the European business environment. At our partner school students with the topic of Economics can opt for this extra curricular course.

The teaching module will be concluded by a school exchange in which students will acquire practical skills by visiting local (social) institutions and businesses located in the direct vicinity of the participating schools. The selected institutions and businesses will demonstrate students their specific branche and provide the students with an existing business challenge/case to be resolved by the students. During the week long exchange, the students will try to solve the business cases and present their solutions to business representatives at a school gathering at the end of the exchange week.

The overall objective is to connect the school to the external environment of businesses and (social) institutions with the aim of showing students the reason why and for what they are learning at school to prepare them better for the labour market after their school careers. Specific objectives are to offer students practical business experience in an (social) institution or business in an intercultural cooperation setting by having mixed nationality teams. We want to prepare students with a window on a possible working future. We want to strengthen students language skills and intercultural (soft) skills. We want to change or enrich the mainly theoretical based school environment with practical entrepreneurship and project based working. We want to provide students with more self esteem to enter the international labour market. Lastly, we want students to take initiative, be creative in their solutions, communicate properly and present themselves professionally.

After 3 to 6 months of the projects end, a follow up will be carried out with the business participants to inform whether or not the provided solutions by the students are being used or implemented. When the project is successful in adding practical experience to the theoretical part, the aim is to add the practicum as an integral part of our EBC*L course. This means that during our 1 of our 2 structural project weeks during the school year, the school will organise a practicum for students that have participated in the EBC*L course.
