Project Summary
Five schools from such distant places and different European regions (North, Middle and South Europe) met to jointly develop a project that made our students be aware of the different roles assigned to women inside our societies throughout history. As drama has been proved to be a powerful tool in teaching because it allows pupils to express their artistic skills while they embrace any value the text contains, we planned to introduce it as the central axis of a methodology we wish to change and innovate.
By developing our ADELE (A Drama-European Legacy: fEmale roles in Literature) project we intended two main objectives:
1.- Bringing students to the European cultural legacy through literary works that let them analyze and know not only these works, but especially what is reflected in them: society, relationships, and social values, and specifically the role of women in those works, as well as the historical context and its varied artistic manifestations.
2.- Improving the social and civic competence by means of the contact and exchange with students of different European countries, as well as other competencies such as communication in foreign languages, cultural awareness, and expression, personal and social competence, and the digital one.
Planned activities were:
1.A short-term joint staff training meeting held in the home town of the coordinator partner where the participants were shown how the drama experiences were carried out in Granada in order to work students’ different skills. The main objectives intended for the project. How the Spanish students choose their literature work, How they study and prepare the final performance. Visitors were also shown the general management of the host school.
Finally, we formed a coordination committee to make a follow-up of the project possible. A selection of the plays or excerpts to perform. were agreed, We sorted out the different roles for the students and the task to complete until the next meeting.
2.Dossiers about history and art in relation to the texts chosen were to be made by the students in each of the partner countries.
3. A translation into English of the texts chosen was to be done by the students.
4.A guide for communication on a basic level in the different mother tongues of the participants was to be made to be used while visiting every country.
5.Students would present the dossiers they had previously made in a workshop during the meetings in every country.
6.In every meeting students would discuss the topic of men and women equality and make posters, graphs, or presentations for the conclusions.
7. A preparation of the show performances, considering the historical, social, and even musical context of the plays chosen. In every meeting, they were going to rehearse, make adjustments and a public performance would be made. The show would be video-recorded and uploaded to our Internet website. During the stay, we would visit the leitmotif places for the authors selected.
8.All along with ADELE implementation a website would be active to upload every dossier, presentation, photo, graph, or video made. It will be also useful to disseminate the experience. The students were intended to be in charge of it.
9.The way of communication for students and staff were be through the different digital and electronic tools as eTwinning.
The participants in the project would be:
Students developing a variety of activities to prepare the performance: acting, lighting, make-up, sound, or music.
Groups of 6 to 7 students (aged 13 to 15) of each partner school would take part in the meetings. The students were going to be chosen by a committee of the participating staff.
In every school students would also participate in workshops or debates on the value of gender equality. They would be asked to create posters, graphs, or presentations with their conclusions.
The profile of teachers responsible for the guidance of the tasks and accompanying the pupils covers any aspects the project might need: History, Literature, ICT, and teachers of English language would take part.
Local people who will attend the performances. Local Media, press, radio, or tv: helping with the dissemination of the activities while the project was implemented.
Our students were going to be given an active role, to choose the texts they were going to reflect on and to face the technical aspects of the play they would produce. As the hostage of the students would be on a family stay basis the opportunity to get to know each other would be increased.
We would disseminate the genesis, implementation, and result of ADELE to other schools by means of the electronic tools mentioned, the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform, and information to the local media.
The teacher training local Agencies would also be given a dossier with all the experience details so they can be used in any teacher training sessions to improve methodological changes.
We hoped to contribute with our experience to the good practices fulfillment and the extension of a change in methodology.
