Project Summary

NOH is a project that was planned to last 24 months but which, due to specific circumstances, has finally lasted 36 months. Four schools from four European countries, Poland, Portugal, Greece and Spain, participated in the project. NOH has made considerable contribution to strengthening our school’ European dimension, improving our image locally by introducing new dynamics, developing new interpersonal links between schools. It has helped to enrich our school’s educational offer, enabling students to take part in learning activities that had previously been absent from schools’ programming and to benefit from new pedagogical methodologies. In this project we have participated four schools that had previous experience in European projects and we decided to join together because we had some common objectives, which we managed to reflect and work on in NOH. The coordinating school knew the Portuguese school because they had worked in a previous project, a Commenius project, and in turn, the Portuguese school knew the Polish school in the same way. In the case of the Greek school, the way we got in touch with each other was different as we did it through the eTwinning platform.
From the beginning, the objective of NOH was to help our students become European citizens for their future while learning actively and improving several of their competences. In order to do this, participating students coming from four similar towns in Greece, Poland, Portugal and Spain got to know each other, teach and learn from one another. They learnt a lot of things about their origins and roots to find out what makes them unique and different, reflecting on how important it is to know about their heritage so as to keep, but also update our main traditions and make our culture last. When doing research on their traditions and history, the students became able to value and respect others’ heritage as well, the activities and mobilites planned helped them. The European identity is a commonly shared feature that enables them to make the differences among them and create strong bonds and we think we have we have succeeded in helping our students see it that way. All this research has been reflected on a map of each participating town with information given in QR codes entirely created by the students. All the products have also been published on diverse platforms online, such as a NOH website, Erasmus+ Project Results Platform, e-Twinning, Facebook and so on. In our towns, and thanks to the help of schools and/or local councils, the map will be located in a place where the whole community can see it, so that all of them can get to know and value their heritage.
The two driving forces behind cultural exchanges are the desire to communicate and the sharing of work by students of several different nationalities. It helped to develop students’ CIVIC COMPETENCES, by helping them to respect other people’s differences, by giving them responsibility, and by enabling them to work on the construction of European identity and citizenship alongside other students in Europe.
On the other hand, thanks to the experiences lived, the personal autonomy of each student has been enriched and developed: they have planned and carried out the implementation of the different activities, they have known and learnt to use new ICT tools that they will be able to continue using in the future, they have known other ways of life and they have adapted to them.
There are some specific and transversal skills that they have acquired and developed thanks to this project.
The objective of A NOD TO OUR HERITAGE is to help our students become European citizens for their future while learning actively improving their competences. In order to do this, participating students coming from four similar towns in Greece, Poland, Portugal and Spain will get to know each other, teach and learn from one another. They will dive into their origins and roots to find out what makes them unique and different, reflecting on how important it is to know about their CULTURAL HERITAGE so as to keep, but also update our main traditions and make our culture last. Nevertheless, when doing research on their roots, ancestors’ traditions, the development of their hometown and historical events, the students will be becoming capable of valuing and respecting others’ heritage as well, which they will learn about thanks to the activities and mobilites planned. Thus, the students will have the opportunity to reflect on how similar we may all be even if belonging to different countries, since the European identity is a commonly shared feature that will enable them to make the differences among them create strong bonds. All this research will be reflected on a TOURISTIC GUIDE of each participating town entirely created by the students. All the products will also be published on diverse platforms online, such as a NOH website, Erasmus+ Project Results Platform, e-Twinning, Facebook and so on.
