Project Summary

Let’s jamm! is aimed at embarking students on an authentic communicative experience to improve language competence in the target language while exploring their musical creativity as composers, performers and promoters.
Since music education plays an important role in both Narcis Oller HIgh School and AF Chapmangymnasiet, Let’s Jamm! aims to be an inspiring setting where students can integrate language skills and music education in a natural way. Let’s jamm! is a suitable communicative approach to FL teaching and learning that combines content and task-based instruction with the powerful effects of music: turning language learners’ barriers (cognitive and emotional) into intrinsic motivation and enjoyment.
A group of 15 students from the Performing Arts Baccalaurete (aged 16-17) at Narcis Oller and a group of 15 students of Spanish and English as a FL from AF Chapmangymnasiet (aged 16-18) will work cooperatively on the E-twinning platform in the creative process of writing a song (lyrics, melody composition, musical arrangements), editing a video clip and planning its performance and dissemination using the target language.
Each year, two exchange visits will take place: the first one at the end of April during the celebration of St. George’s Day (23rd of April) in Valls, Spain and the second one in Karlstrona, Sweden on the occasion of Spring’s Day (1st of May).
Students will be also responsible for planning their partners visit, the performances and elaborate a Welcome Guide for Guests, including relevant information about their stay in the partner’s country.
We strongly believe that Let’s Jamm will give a new and fresh impulse for FL learning in our schools as a means to succesfully overcome language learners’ barriers (emotional stress and cognitive limitations).
We expect to become an inspiration for other teachers on how to adopt a more student-centered and task-based approach and also for those who are already implementing a CLIL approach in their lessons.
Last but not least, both our schools are concerned about the future of music education in state schools. We truly expect to make our contribution to ensure music education is not limited to an elite, but available to all students.
