Project Summary
The project is based on the experience accumulated by the AAIICC’s Abecedaria Programme in its more than 20 years of existence, linking art and education and bringing the performing arts closer to schools. For the last few years the Abecedaria Programme had also been collaborating with the Teacher Training Centre, CEP, of the Provincial Delegation of Education in Granada in training and advising teachers in the field of performing arts. With this background, participating in a transnational project was seen as an opportunity to transfer the results of these experiences and learn about other good practices carried out in the field at a European level.
The main objective of Butterfly. Transforming arts into education, has been to develop and exchange an innovative teaching and learning methodology, exploring the potential of performing arts to improve the performance and motivation of students and foster social inclusion in the community. The project has been organised in three local Laboratories, in Granada, Mors and Bologna, where educational centres have worked side by side with cultural institutions building strategic partnerships to achieve project’s aims, organising workshops with artists and students at the school, promoting links between artistic activities and other areas of the school curriculum, as well as organising meetings with professionals in the educational and cultural sector, universities and teacher training centres.
These Local Lab of Arts and Education have served as a framework to develop and test successful educational experiences to improve or achieve key competences in school with an inclusive perspective. These experiences have been tested and validated during transnational learning activities in Denmark and Italy. Following the Learning Communities methodology, the Butterfly project has organised activities with the community, related to the valorisation of cultural heritage and local traditions, promoting social cohesion and participatory citizenship.
Moreover, Butterfly has organised dissemination events such as artistic performances, dramatised visits or sound walks, in which students have shown the community the work developed during the project, increasing awareness of the value of artistic education and social cohesion. Besides, Butterfly has published a bilingual Guide with a Catalogue of Good Practices in Arts and Education to transfer the results of the project to the professional educational and cultural community, other stakeholders and policy makers in education and culture across Europe.
Finally, the project has launched a website to disseminate and transfer knowledge and experiences, and to make the results of the project available to all interested parties, such as the Bilingual Good Practice Digital Guide, as well as all the information about other activities carried out during the project.
