Project Summary

1.CONTEXTThe CHANGE project stems from Santa Teresa School’s concern and interest in increasing the inclusion of students with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). It’s a center with 40 years experience in this matter, it accepts the biggest number of autistic children in its region and this also makes it one of the highest numbers of autistic children in Spain. The number of children with ASD has grown exponentially, Santa Teresa School understands its role as a model in the educational inclusion of students with ASD. We are determined to continue to improve by looking for European partners to work with; to enable a joint research project that offers a positive answer to the current situation. Many methods come from the USA, and they do not always seem to be efficient within a European context.2.OBJECTIVESMain Objective: TO DEVELOP EFFICIENT STRATEGIES TO BOOST STUDENTS WITH ASD, AND THEIR INCLUSION IN ORDINARY SCHOOLS THROUGH THE RESEARCH, AND IN PARTNERSHIP, WITH EUROPEAN SCHOOLS FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES.Other objectives: to create cultural exchanges, to increase the technological competence of, both, students and teachers, to improve the linguistic competence of students and teachers (in English), to learn about European Institutions. We hope to create an innovative project, without precedent.3.THE PARTNERSHIPA. “SANTA TERESA DE JESUS SCHOOL” (Badajoz, Spain) Applicant Organisation. 769 Students. 52 Teachers. Students between 3-18 years old. 18 students with ASD. More than 50 students with other disabilities.B. “PRIMARY AND SECONDARY DR. ÂNGELO AUGUSTO SCHOOL” (Funchal, Portugal) 1080 Students. 140 Teachers. Students between 5-14 years old. 18 Students with ASD. C. “PRIMARY SCHOOL NR1 IN ZIELONA GÓRA” (Zielona Gora, Poland) 739 Students. 60 Teachers. Students between 6-12 years old. 10 Students with Special Needs including ASD. D. “ISIS FRANCESCO ORIOLI” (Viterbo, Italy) 950 Students. 180 Teachers. Students between 12-16 years old. 18 Students with ASD. 4. RESEARCH AND COOPERATIONIt is not expected that students will travel, as we do not feel, due to the special characteristics of students with ASD, that it would be beneficial for them. The factors that will guarantee an efficient cooperation are 3 TRANSNATIONAL MEETINGS WITH 2 MEMBERS PER PARTNER, VIDEO CONFERENCES VIA SKYPE every two months. Every month each partner will write A BRIEF REPORT. E-TWINNING platform will be used where the partnership already has an open project. Each partner will have a BLOG. 5. ACTIVITIES AND BENEFICIARIESThe activities that have been organized are stated in the project timetable; there are 13 in total, they contribute to the projects aims, utilizing ICT as well as more traditional methods.8283 direct beneficiaries and 661 indirect beneficiaries.6.TRAINING ACTIVITIES.Two Teacher Training Activities: They are essential for the completion of the “European guide for Good Practice for the Inclusion of Students with ASD in Schools”, they cannot be replaced with virtual meetings given the amount of work and time required to create a successful cooperative project. They are validated by EUROPASS.7.RISK MANAGEMENT OF THE PROJECTThe project has a plan for efficient risk management with 8 hypothetical situations and the actions required, that will ensure positive development and good practice.8.IMPACTThe project looks to have an important impact on the students with ASD, the rest of the pupils, the teachers and the educational community. Furthermore, it is hoped that the impact is felt at local, regional, national and international levels through the creation of the “European guide for Good Practice for the Inclusion of Students with ASD in Schools”. 9.DISSEMINATIONThere is a Distribution Plan. The principal objective is: to achieve greater awareness, to publicize both, tangible and intangible results that we obtain, to influence associations, administrative & political bodies, and to maximize the potential to create new associations.Principal distribution channels: The platform VALOR, Scholl Education Gateway, Facebook, and the individual webs of each center, Web ‘Curricular Adaptations’, TWITTER, ERASMUS BLOGS of each partner, TWINSPACE of the project, Each center’s WEB, VIMEO and various media outlets. The “European guide for Good Practice for the Inclusion of Students with ASD in Schools” will use its own events to assist in its dissemination.10.SUSTAINABILITYThe “Sustainability Plan” will guarantee, through the firm commitment between the partners to continue the project through to September 2018. ETWINNING will continue to function. The blogs and the webs of each center will continue to be worked upon. The partners will continue to collaborate and they will establish the “Platform for the Improvement of Education for Students with Autism”, that will be a cooperative network for centers of different nationalities for the establishment of the outcomes and recommendations of of the “Guide”.
