Project Summary

The project “Creative Teaching Methods Applying Film and Drama” focuses on an interdisciplinary approach of how to integrate “drama” and “film” in a variety of subjects in order to create innovative teaching situations. Tese two topics were chosen because they offer a very wide frame for students and teachers to express themselves in a digital (film) and in an active and communicative (drama) form. The partnership also decided to focus workshops, trainings and products (films/on stage performances) on themes which affect the target group, (teenagers at the age of 14-16) which are: IDENTITY, FAMILY, CULTURAL DIFFERENCES, EUROPE, SCHOOL, INCLUSION, RELATIONSHIPS, YOUTH PROBLEMS.
The whole project was based on three main training areas. The first training area was based at school. One or two classes were chosen at each school being project classes. Teachers joined the project and they integrate the project within their classes and within the frame of the curriculum. The topics “film” and “drama” were discussed and treated in different subjects. The main objective of these trainings was to raise awareness of the topics among students and to furnish them with a solid knowledge about film and drama. Language teachers focused on communicative and language based activities in class. In IT and arts classes students learn how to use filming and IT devices, programs and applications.
The second training area focused on workshops with school external experts and the presentation of products (films/plays) in public. On the one hand experts on film and drama were invited and hold workshops together with students and teachers. In these workshops knowledge was passed on from experts to students /teachers. On the other hand students had the opportunity to show their films or perform on stage on official occasions at school.
The third training area was based on transnational students’ exchanges. Each transnational project meeting focused either on “drama” or “film” according to the hosting partners’ strengths e.g. Poland had expert teachers on film and Denmark had experts teachers on drama. In these meetings teachers and students got professional and profound training and knowledge from experts (teachers or external experts). The exchange of knowledge was carried out through workshops, discussions, presentations, visits of project relevant institutions (film studios, museums, theatres, etc.). At the end of each students’ exchange a final show was organized in which students and teachers showed what they have worked on during the whole week. The workshops provided teachers and students not only with new perspectives and approaches to the topic “drama” and “film” but also with European, cultural and social understanding through gaining professional training.
The project meetings were essential to the project, because after returning home, trained students and teachers acted as experts on either film or drama and acted as transmitters of knowledge, carrying out teaching and training sessions themselves with other students. This corresponded with the objective of gaining a variety of skills: teamwork, leadership, communication skills, entrepreneurship, result orientation, problem solving, IT-skills, decision making skills, linguistic skills, learning how to learn, social and civic responsibility, cultural awareness and creativity.
The students’ exchanges created friendships between students and they strengthen existing friendships between teachers. Thus prejudices, clichés and fears were reduced on a Euroepean level. Another objective of this project was to involve all participating students in the organisation and management of the project. Teachers only supported students organising workshops, presentations, performances, timetables, etc. For this reason students gained experience in the use of ICT and they gained administrative, organisational, linguistic and communicational skills.
