Project Summary

The transition from a high school rhythm to the higher education study system with new teaching methods and expectations make younger students “disorientated” and leads an increased rate of drop-outs (early leaving, failure) for the first cycle study path (L1 to L3), often punctuated by the lack of motivation having negative consequences on learning process such as absenteeism, irregular academic results, and decreased academic performance, a negative impact on the self-perception and self-confidence of the individual on a psychological level. What finally leads to failure and early leaving.

Motivation and new dynamic interaction in class remain one of the key for a successful learning: a motivated learner becomes curious and can’t be stopped, especially in nowadays digital era. Content to be learned by students and the way of knowledge acquisition shall be constantly revised by faculty as traditional methods have become boring for digital natives. Teachers must constantly re-invent, adapt their way of instruction and continuously integrate new technology tools to face the new generation digital needs, whereas digital natives were born into retrieving information, problem solving, and communicating with this technology.

In line with the 2011 EU Modernisation Agenda’s priority areas and aiming at improving quality and relevance of higher education through implementing new adequate digital tools into learning process, the e-REACKT project’s objectives are:

– development and implemention of an innovative online learning gaming tool Academ’Quiz to “re-invent” learning, revision and assessment processes;
– development of business related courses contents (L1-L2 level) for the AQ in English focusing on language, cross-cultural and basic business skills & competencies acquisition;
– development of an open-access AQ Freemium for institutions and individuals, external from project partners consortia
– development and implemention of faculty support through Community of Practices aiming at facilitating the use of digital practices.

The e-REACKT project cosortium is composed of six partcipants having different profiles chosen based on their knowledge, competences and area of expertise relevant to achieve project’s goals as well as several criteria set to ensure a wide and international spread of outcomes produced:
1) European higher education institutions: CEESO ECE – coordinating organisation (private business school), Lahti UAS (university of applied sciences), EAL UAS (university of applied sciences), UPV/EHH (university);
2) IT company “HN Services” responsible for a digital tools development
3) O&D having expertise in leading Online Education projects and providing with legal, dessimination issues support and assistance;
4) Fontys UAS (university of applied sciences) as associated partner provides an external evaluation of the project’s outcomes and participates in several project’s activities related to curricula course content production and dessimination.

Throughout the e-REACKT projects the activities are carried out within six work packages & areas:
WP1 Project management mainly covering overall project coordination, financial and administratives activities, transnational meetings organisation.
WP2 Project Quality management focusing on evaluation project achievement and risk prevention.
WP3 The AQ digital tool development mainly consisting of designing and implementation of the gaming application into regular curricula of partner instituions and development of the AQ Freemium – an open access application for external users (individuals and institutions).
WP4 The AQ courses content production aimed at developing mutualized learning contents to facilitate learning for students and faculty.
WP5 the Community of Practices focusing on contributing to exchange of learning practices between faculty through an open access online platform.
WP6 Dissemination activities related to ensure the promotion and sustainability of the project’s results.

The e-REACKT project is expected to produce short-, mid- and long-term impacts during and the after the project period adressing several target groups:
1) STUDENTS’ motivation will be stimulated to ensure a regular learning activity and stronger individual academic performance through a multidisciplinary educational gaming tool.
2) TEACHERS will have their curriculum design and learning/assessment teaching methods development skills enhanced through a collaborative international work. The exchange of good practices whilst implementing the use of digital technologies will be carried out through the Community of Practices – an open access plateform.
3) INSTITUTIONS will be able to create mutual synergies between institutions of different education levels and study fields.
