Project Summary

In 2011 the European Parliament reported on detention conditions in Member States (Resolution 15/12/2011 n° 2897), urging them to invest resources in prisons’ renovation, in order to ensure the full recognition and protection of inmates’ rights. With the European Prison Rules (Recommentadion No. R (87) 3 of Council of Europe) renewed emphasis has been placed on the importance of staff roles and effective modern management approaches.As a Strategic Partnerships supporting exchange of good practices, the project improved the staff profile of involved organizations, promoting self-awareness and increasing the competences of educators committed with inmates education. The partnership involved several kinds of organizations active in the field of adult education in the specific field of inmates social reintegration: 1 Romanian penitentiary (Bistrita); 1 Italian social cooperative (L’Ovile) and 1 Spanish Ngo (Noesso) which offer educative paths and integration into the labour market opportunities to inmates, actively collaborating with local penitentiary; 1 Greek ngo (You in Europe) working in the field of adult education with specific experience on inmates; 1 Portuguese ngo (Sapana) developing projects aimed at supporting integration into labour market of inmates.The exchange of good practices and connected training activities addressed to staff of educators has been developed according to two different strands:- COMPETENCES FOR EFFECTIVE SOCIAL REINTEGRATION (How to promote transversal competences among inmates; How to promote integration into labour market; How to create a local network involving other organizations and relavant stakeholders in order to make social reintegration more effective and to reduce risk of crime);- COMPETENCES FOR INCLUSIVE SOCIAL REINTEGRATION (focus on inmates with mental disease and migrants and minorities).ACTIVITIES- 1 kick-off meeting on skype- 4 in-presence meetings with representatives of the partner organizations- 3 mobility experiences (96 persons in total; 45 persons in mobility – partners’ staff)- 3 online training sessions (60 persons – partners’ staff)- peer-to-peer national training activities (104 persons – partners’ staff)- 5 national focus groups with panel of stakeholders to design a common curricula and to share aspects of replicability taking into account National Penal System (66 stakeholders)- 1 survey on involved staff in order to collect evaluation about the project.OUTPUTS- a dedicated website;- a Recognition Tool of Competences, which an educator in the field of Justice should have, in order to ensure inclusion and postive social integration of several targets (in particular mental desease, migrants, minorities);- a Model of inmates integration into labour market- a Model of promoting social reintegration after releasing from prison- a Recommendation Paper addressed to local and national decision makers, in order to promote good experiences and facilitate their development in other contexts, bulti on the results of the final national focus groups that each partner will organize on its territory with relevant stakeholders in order to define a set of competences and transferability aspects; 2 collections of good practices; 2 videos; IMPACTS – Workers involved acquired new methodological skills and competences, improving their professional profile.- Workers acquired specific competences in the field of diversity management (responsiveness to social, ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity). – Workers increased their opportunities for professional development, thanks to good practice exchange and training. – Involved workers are more aware about the set of competences necessary in order to promote inclusive educative path aimed at effective social reintegration of inmates.- Involved workers increased their motivation and satisfaction in daily work. – Organizations and workers active in the field of adult education addressed to inmates received, thanks to dissemination activity, tools aimed at reinforcing and promoting inclusive educative path aimed at effective social reintegration of inmates.- Partners benefited from the project since they are directly committed in the field of adult inmates education: they improved their staff profile, the internal training offer, the effectiveness on inmates.- Organizations promoted their previous experiences enhancing efforts and sharing competences already acquired.- Partners activated new relationships at European level, acquiring knowledge and competences which will innovate their approach and practices.- The inmates of partner organizations benefited from the project since their educators developed new competences.DISSEMINATION PLAN- Newsletters; intranet; social media; virtual and real showcases; meetings; dedicated website; press releases and dissemination activities in each country for project introduction; stakeholders networks; dissemination at the end of the project in each country (more than 900 persons).
