Project Summary
The European Prisoner Entrepreneurship Program project aimed at answering a global challenge: the reintegration of prisoners.
This project consisted in the design, development, and implementation of a high-quality training courses on entrepreneurship accessible on an IT platform. Its content has been adapted to the needs and level of the targets: prisoners and ex-offenders. It has been also created training materials for the NGO and organisations working with prisoners and ex-offenders. They benefitted from a specific section on the platform and a user guide to help them to train, to support and to teach the end users the correct behavior to have and how to interact with people outside of prison.
The project had 2 main target groups:
– Prisoners/ex-offenders
– Trainers working with prisoners
The project answered to 3 main needs on both national and European level:
– The need to train and provide high quality training for the prisoners in accordance with the need to facilitate their reintegration in the society through labour market integration, and through the development of their self-esteem,
– The need to train the people who work with prisoners on entrepreneurship as it is enhancing their chances of reintegration through the acquirement of these competencies,
– The need to allow every European prisoner to have access to a suitable training.
The EPEP intended to have several outcomes and impacts on European countries, the most relevant are:
– The definition of the specific needs of the prison population in term of methodology and content regarding a entrepreneurship training course;
– The launch of the European Prisoners Entrepreneurship Program after its test and optimisation;
– The creation of a specific toolkit for trainers on how to support prisoners in their entrepreneurial project and how to interact with them, including specific sections on the platform (logbook, legal advices) and a user guide;
– The training of 24 prisoners and 6 trainers in France, Belgium and Italy;
– The social and professional reintegration of prisoners with new skills and competences and thus the decrease of recidivism.
To ensure the dissemination of the projects outcomes and results, 3 Multiplier events has been organised and all partners used their communication material to talk about the EPEP.
This platform and toolkit became a reference in all European country. The digital material helped to the easy share of the content and the sustainability of the outputs.
The good management tools, and the regular meetings (transnational meetings and web conferences), ensured the good course of the project as well as the involvement and motivation of all the partners.
