Project Summary
Young people today are enormously dedicated to working with and preserving the environment. In the wake of Gretha Tunberg’s environmental protests, students across the world are engaged with learning more about environmental concerns. The strategic partnership between Nannestad VGS and Lycee Simone Veil have worked together for 9 years to create a transnational learning environment for our students to engage in international cooperation of shared goals. The schools involve 24 students from France and Norway to cooperate across borders on a self-chosen topic within the topic of “Environment issues”. Using eTwinning as a shared education gateway the students plan a shared presentation to be held at both schools where they present their own national concerns but also cooperate on a shared project. This presentation is held at both schools during the project’s two mobility phases. Students also create a film outlining the process that is shared with both schools.
During the project, the students achieve a comprehensive approach to language learning, especially by being invited into host families, and other classrooms in a foreign country. In the classrooms, the visiting students are expected to share in their experience and perspectives, in order to build intercultural competence and promote transnational relations.
We firmly believe that understanding different perspectives helps build an understanding of democratic principles. We use a lot of time during the year to let our students work and communicate with each other across borders to help build relations and work on their project, for the student exchange to have optimal results. It is important to us that the students are invited to each other home to get an authentic impression of different values and to help build social relations that may last a lifetime.
At the conclusion of the project, the results are shared on the schools’ websites and presented to new students at the school to build interest and to involve the students in future projects. We also share our findings at the Erasmus+ Project result page, as well as concluding the projects eTwinning page at the end of the school year. The experiences gained from the project is then shared with the other international projects at school in order to ensure their quality and student learning.
