Project Summary

GENDER STRAT4 EQUALITY: Train-the gendertrainer!
Following the Treaty of European Union, the gender perspective has to be mainstreamed in all areas of activities and the effects of gender equality must be considered in any impact assessments of new EU policies (European Pact for Gender Equality 2011-2020).
In the light of these demands, an increase of gender equality trainings can be expected. But despite a broad variety of gender trainings, there are still no unique European quality standards for this kind of education in lifelong learning, which could be applied on all regional levels top down to local communities in rural areas.

The partnership addressed this matter by building a strategic European partnership, consisting of an older, a newer, the youngest and a potential future partner of EU member states.
Two public institutions and three civil society organisations in Austria, Croatia, Lithuania and Iceland defined together QUALITY CRITERIA and EUROPEAN STANDARDS for gender equality trainings and developed a special CURRICULUM PORTFOLIO to train “gendertrainers” in Europe. With this quality standards gender equality trainings will be enhanced and harmonised in Europe by the common effort of a strategic North-South-axis.

The CURRICULUM PORTFOLIO contains the instructive and didactic plan for train-the-trainer lectures; in addition it provides insights into the practical application of the “EIGE GENDER-EQUALITY-INDEX”-tool (an instrument of the Lithuanian based European Institute for Gender Equality), measuring and comparing gender equality progress of EU member States.
The portfolio consists of the following elements:
1.) The Curriculum for train-the-trainer education for gender equality issues in three independent modules: What you have to know about gender equality; gender equality in practice; methodological information for gender equality trainings; the innovative best practice examples are from Iceland (known as the most developed state regarding gender equality), Croatia (still suffering from the past Ex-Yugoslavian war), Lithuania and Austria;
2.) Quality criteria for gender equality trainings to support key actors and decision makers at regional level, in programme committees and municipalities, demonstrating quality standards and selection criteria for gender equality trainers;
3.) The collection of best practice examples of gender equality trainings was completed by further examples; it can be used also in other educational settings than train-the-trainer seminars, featuring one-day seminars, regional workshop series; international trainings, gender budgeting days for civil servants and seminars for NGO activists as well as for medical doctors in the health care sector;
4.) A model of a memorandum of understanding with the most important features for a successful partnership between public institutions and civil society organisations when it comes to promote gender equality trainings especially at regional and national level;
5.) A database list of gender equality trainer was created to support the search for trainers (ongoing process), supplying interested trainers with an application form to Register.

The portfolio can be used at local, municipal and regional level. The cooperation for the curriculum portfolio has deepened the mutual understanding of the partner organisations and their networks regarding European values. The dissemination process has opened new doors also for other South-European countries to learn mutually from each other. The MULTIPLIER CONFERENCE in Austria has contributed largely to this process, supplying a linchpin of this North-South-axis. The encountered quality standards for gendertrainings and the European curriculum-portfolio were presented, discussed and disseminated at this high level event.

Therefore the Curriculum Portfolio will have ongoing sustainable effects, the dissemination activities will continue in the frame of numerous events and presentations. Interested institutions, organisations and trainers will have opportunity to download the products and results of the project at the websites of the coordinator and the partner organisations. If required also consultation and trainings will be provided by the partners how to use the Portfolio or select aspects out of it.
