Project Summary

The project “Green Line of Life” was created through intensive meetings with the partners from Düsseldorf, Orléans, Rajhrad, Bielsko-Biala and Celje. Those are all horticultural schools which, with the exception of the school in Düsseldorf, have been maintaining good contacts for many years and have also been involved in ERASMUS+ projects before.
The EU-Horticulture-Teacher asbl based in Luxembourg is the initiator and coordinator of this project, but does not organise a seminar itself. The association, which was founded in 2017, but has existed for many years without a fixed structure, is about bringing together as many teachers and learners as possible from the professional world of horticulture in order to exchange professional, cultural, and human information for a better mutual understanding in Europe.
The red (“green”) thread of this project stems from the project idea, namely to show teachers and learners possibilities of how to sustainably improve the living environment of people with the help of gardening activities.
The selection of the seminars was mainly based on the strengths of the participating schools, which they can then pass on to others.
This resulted in the following seminars:
– Gartenbauschule Düsseldorf: Topic: Gabions. Here the use of gabions in connection with the use as insect hotel is conveyed. A learning app should be created for this purpose.
– Gartenbauschule Rajhrad: Theme: Large-scale floristic projects. Here the increasing desire of people to have celebrations in nature is met and the participants are taught how to design such large objects floristically. The creation of a tutorial is planned here.
– Gartenbauschule Celje: Topic: Hand in Hand. The focus here is more on what kind of knowledge the participants already have in the field of horticultural activities and if the contents of the two previous seminars have already been incorporated in the partner schools involved.
There are several tasks that the participants have to solve. During this seminar, a “Street of European Gardens” will be created, which will be freely accessible. A film will also be made here.
– Orléans School of Horticulture: Theme: The perennial plant. The focus here is on plants that can be used for horticultural activities to improve the human living environment. Sample plant plans are to be created by using digital media.
– Gartenbauschule Bielsko-Biala: Theme: Green classroom. Here the participants will learn how to plan a classroom in nature and how to put it into practice. The resulting green classroom will continue to be available for use by the school and for visitors.
Great importance is attached to the use of digital media at all seminars held in order to promote their use in gardening activities as well.
Furthermore, cultural events are always part of the supporting programme of the seminars in order to get to know the culture of the respective host country.
Due to the good cooperation of the schools with companies from the horticultural sector, there are good opportunities to organise further work experiences in other European countries.
The results of the project will be disseminated through the integration of the contents into the respective teaching units and the organisation of workshops on this topic. Also newspaper articles, homepages of the schools and the association contribute to the spreading.
All participants will receive a note and the opportunity to register their participation in the seminars in the EUROPASS.
On the European level, the results will be disseminated via eTwinning and Epale.
