Project Summary
“HEALTH AND DAILY ROUTINES COMBINED” is a project that will connect students and teachers from Spain, Macedonia, Italy, Poland and Turkey. Our aim focuses on the idea that students need to develop a healthy lifestyle and their habits can be improved thanks to the wide opportunity of European community. Students will be implied in activities before each international meeting, so they will boost their knowledge. The number of participants will be large, as all students can participate at school level. They will be shown how physical activity is vital to prevent health problems. This project will offer a wider perspective to tackle the topic using creative, integrated methods.
The common problem our schools identified at the level of our schools is less interest in attending PE classes, which leads to the number of pupils being overweight. As well, our students have little interest in spending time in nature, playing eco-games. We designed this project in order to raise students´ interest in the trans-curricular teaching and learning activities within this partnership. An important attention will be given to students experiencing fewer opportunities who will get appropriate support for their participation in all types of activities. The main aim is to raise awareness about healthy European lifestyles for 100 students from the 5 schools participating in the present project for 24 months.
The direct beneficiaries will be 125 participants: 100 students and 25 teachers. We estimate that altogether there will be 250 students involved from different schools. All pupils taking part in the project are between 10-14 years old. At school staff level there will be 80 teachers and school psychologists and about 200 local participants: parents, representatives of the local and regional authorities, inspectors, guests, stakeholders, etc. The communication language of the project is English.
The aim of the project will be achieved through a set of objectives, underlining the importance of formal and non-formal activities. We intend to create an interdisciplinary approach where social cohesion, cooperation, communication, team work and team building will provide the students with a sense of belonging to European values. The learning process is intended to be dynamic by promoting learning by discovering. Our objectives are:
-to improve students’ skills and awareness to have a healthy diet;
-to encourage students to lead a healthier lifestyle;
-to provide participants with the possibility to learn within a transnational, multicultural environment;
-to strengthen the international exchange of good practices.
As a result of direct participation at the topic designed activities, students will become more conscious of the fact that they are directly responsible for their own acts: understanding the causes and effects of unhealthy eating can be the starting point for a new way of living. They will take part in the global implementation of the project. Students will become more motivated as guest teachers will work with them and more enthusiastic about the project. All the students that will take part in the project are supposed to develop long-lasting friendships by means of the international direct meetings in mobilities or eTwinning platforms, in the project clubs or in competitions.
The importance of the international mobilities will result in finding sources of inspiration, opportunities for personal growth and development and creating role models for our students. The implementation of the topic-related activities during the international meetings will be done by classes attendance, workshops in the project clubs. The specific features of each school, town, economical, geographical context will be taken into consideration. We are going to use a lot of outdoor teaching so most non-formal activities will be done outside: trips in the park, walking in natural environment. Students will be involved in interactive activities which will develop their life abilities like critical thinking, creativity, communication, healthy habits, ecological awarness and practical knowledge.
The results of the project will be videos, posters as well as educational materials: a dictionary, a short story, lesson plans, educational activities. They can be blended into the school curricula. We intend to disseminate them during Open Day events of the schools, methodological reunions of teachers or at Educational Fairs as well as by the schools’ websites and local media. Inside the project our cooperation will continue through TwinSpace, online eTwinning platform for at least two years after the international direct exchanges of the project. Our project will keep a calendar of representative international days for the topic, e.g. on World Health Day all the schools will organize a health awareness campaign. The valuable standards of Europe will be promoted by critical thinking, language learning, ICT skills, team work, decision taking and communication.
