Project Summary

The bilateral partnership between the Kaufmännische Schule Heidenheim and the IES Pinar de la Rubia Valladolid was meant to let students on a highschool- and college-level research information about the shared cultural heritage of Europe with the help of monuments (Denk-mal). The project was meant to be interdisciplinary (German, English, Spanish, History, Politics, IT, Economics).

Our project guided the students through digital and analog research, field inspections and the sharing of the selected monument’s presenations. The face-to-face encounter in the partner’s homecountry lead to profound, inductively developed knowledge about both, the home and the foreign project partner’s culture, their historical awareness and traditional self-image.
Shared reports for the school’s radio and podcasts let the students explore the need for cooperation and communication in foreign languages. The students achieved a certification with the Europass, helpful during the application-process.

The partners learned to cross boarders of space and time with the help of modern, digital media and to present their homecountry, their culture and history in German, Spanish and English. They acted as ambassadors. The students mostly communicated in digital and online ways and worked with e-twinning. They used innovative gadgets, programs and apps to create V-logs, chats, live-conferences and more. In passing, they learned how to use the new media safely and were confronted and taught about data protection and copyrights in workshops many times.

Our project has deepen the awareness of our connecting cultural heritage in Europe and enabled them of European citizenship and therefore the possibility to explore the European market with sustainable methods. In our opinion our students realized through our project the vision of cooperation, partnership and cultural sharing in the European Union.
