Project Summary
IES Medina Azahara is a school in which bilingual and information and communication technology projects are being developed. Our teachers, who are greatly involved in these projects, believe that participating in European programs is essential for the development of our educational community as a whole
For this reason, we started a commission to elaborate and develop the Plan of European Development to detect the needs of our school as well as the ways to implement projects in order to reach the targets set.
This Plan of European Development was passed both by the teachers and the “Consejo Escolar” (act 5/02/2015), which shows that there is a commitment taken by all the educative community so that the corresponding activities are set up in the syllabus of the different subjects.
The targets set will contribute to the integral formation of our students in the following aspects:
1. Improving the acquisition of competences and skills.
2. Improving their communication in foreign languages
3. Developing and updating their digital skills
4. Fighting against the stereotypes of those who are different
5. Improving their school results
6. Integrating disadvantaged or special needs students
The commission prepared a Project which responds to our goals and meets our school needs and also searched for partners in eTwinning that shared our aims and interests and that were able to communicate in English.
We established Cosme III de Mèdici’s trip as a mean of carrying out several activities to develop the aforementioned goals. Looking at the whole trip, we think that only four partners from the four towns should participate in the first part in order for the project to be manageable. The towns chosen were Lisbon, Florence and Santiago de Compostela as they cover the southern part of the trip so, other Spanish, French and Italian towns would be left for a subsequent project.
Once the four school members were chosen, we agreed that the activities would have a wide circulation in each educational community, that whole classes take part in the project, and that the participants in the transnational meetings to share the works with the other partners are picked from those. Also, there will be two groups of different ages of participants: 13-14 and 15-16 years old, so that the students from all the schools can integrate easily.
It is also in agreement that two teachers and five students will take part in each exchange.
The activities to be elaborated by all the participants are:
• A designing contest will be organized to choose a PROJECT LOGO, which will be disseminated in all the participant educational communities.
• The monuments visited during the trip will be used to elaborate a DIGITAL GUIDE IN AUGMENTED REALITY of the trip to be disseminated not only in the schools participating, but also in e-Twinning,
Twitter, etc … and the local organizations and public in general.
• We will make drawings of Pier Maria Baldi’s watercolours and/or will take pictures of them, which will be used to make a GAME OF THE GOOSE and a GYMKHANA, about the towns visited during the project and allows us to compare their present and past situation in different aspects (social situation, traditions, women’s situation at that time, unit systems of measurement…..)
• We will play and record musical pieces from the ETHNIC MINORITIES present in the different towns both during Cosme III’s visits and nowadays.
• We will organize workshops to get to know the tasks of the associations devoted to SOLIDARITY AND SOCIAL INTEGRATION in every participant town.
• We will create and keep web sites for the development of the project and to spread the products made in it.
All the products elaborated will be spread throughout the local media, web pages, educational newspapers… Also the products will be offered to the CEP’s (teachers centers) and other educational organizations which might be interested in them.
By the end of the project there will be meetings where gymkhanas and the game of the goose hands will be played to be used as teaching material for different bilingual subjects: history, music, maths, English.
It will also be used as a teaching unit of the integrated curriculum of some subjects.
