Project Summary
“Let’s eurorobot together!” is an Erasmus + collaborative project between 3 countries, France, Spain and Italy.
The collaborative creation of robots was carried out in teams. Different groups of students were able to do the design and make the robots. Once produced, they programmed the robots in collaboration and developed their skills and then a final competition was held to demonstrate their skills. In this project, Arduino motherboards, sensors, motors, transmitters and signal receivers were used. They worked on the information chain and the energy chain.
This project promoted transdisciplinary work with technology, mathematics (programming algorithms), foreign languages (Spanish, French, Italian, English) to describe the tasks, and conception. It also promoted the co-operation among the teachers in charge of each activity, the project coordinators, the heads of studies, etc. We proposed a competition between 4 international mixed teams formed by students of the three institutes. Therefore, each class in each country was divided into 4 groups (A, B, C, D) that worked with the other groups in the other countries. These 4 transnational teams formed by 2,3,4 or 5 pupils (depending on the total number of pupils per class) of each institute collaborated on the design of the robot, the conception of the mechanical and plastic parts, the assembly and in the end the programming .The final competition allowed to check the relevance of the pupil’s choices .
Approximately one hundred students participated in the project over the 2 years. Thus we promoted the collaboration between all students from countries of different cultures, social cohesion and the exchange of ideas and suggestions. In the same way, cooperation was strengthened with team work to achieve the same common goal, reinforcing the relationships between the institutes. Each of the four teams produced 3 equal robots, one for each institute. This allowed all students in each institute to be able to use the 4 robots that were jointly designed . They also had the opportunity to learn to program with classmates. A total of 12 robots were manufactured and only one was awarded. This project developed basic skills and cross-curricular competences using innovative collaborative methods and digital integration. It also promoted cooperation, learning and exchanges of experience at a European level in order to reduce the disparities of disadvantaged groups, create a momentum that goes beyond the divisions and the subdivisions of sectors and age groups. This project promoted the student communication in foreign languages and also opened up to another way of working and developed new methodologies for teachers. This project “Euroboting all together” allowed an opening on this modern world of robotics which keeps evolving.
The impact of the project on the participants and the organizations continued well beyond the duration of the project by creating lasting links through students’ internships. The project will contribute to develop a European dimension in our institutions over the long term and promote the mobilities for the students.
