Project Summary
The projet entitled « nature across borders » will enable European young people to get closer and share ideas on various topics such as sports in nature, culture and environmental prevention.
For many years now, the lycée Marcel Gimond has been offering in his educational project, international perspectives through sports, cultural and scientific projects
Born at the initiative of several European High schools, this project aims at co-organising exchanges through the practise of nature activities combining the knowledge of local cultural heritages and a look at biodiversities.
Our objectives are to raise our students awareness on the importance of biodiversity as well as on the protection of the environment through the practise of sports in nature and also to discover or re-discover their local cultural heritage.
We notice that school is first and foremost a place of learning for all students. The skills listed by the sport in nature academic learning program go beyond strict safety skills.
The teaching and the voluntary practise of sports in nature is totally part of a student learning programme. Above the specific benefits on motor abilities , these activities find their relevance in safety education thanks to the learning of risk control when confronting uncertain and changing environments, with restrictions linked to environmental variability. Moreover, these activities strenghten solidarity and cooperation. By living situations far from everyday life, students learn to observe, listen and become aware of their own limits and therefore learn to better challenge them without overpassing them ever. Hence, we wanted to compare the various practises in Europe for mutual enrichment but also instaure a linguistic and cultural exchange climate between the different shool partners.
Despite our geographic isolation, the Lycée Marcel Gimond, carries out many projects and has a great experience in European mobility and wishes to offer its students this international perspective.
Several mobility projects will be carried out to enable young people to meet around a sport challenge such as a competitionless two day raid and a treasure hunt based on cultural riddles.
The values of solidarity, friendliness and exchange will be the heart of these meetings. Students (24) will be selected on their involvement in the project but we will preserve a social balance and a gender equality.
Thanks to the mobilities, students from each school will have the opportunity to live an enriching and constructive exchange in the host families of the participants, but also to open a door to another way of experiencing their schoolings and and finally to discover the customs of each partner countries.
Virtual exchanges between students of each school will be set up from the beginning of the project in september 2019.Teachers and students will use the Etwinning plateform to communicate virtually, to cooperate but also to learn and train.
In the end, each school will have a better understanding of the practises of sports in nature in the other European countries and will also gain knowledge about the local cultural heritages as well as the diverse biodiversities. The sport challenge may also be organised again in the school for the other students and we may think this project could be suggested to the different school nearby.
To sum up, we focus our project of two major components :
Sport can be a wonderful medium for learning, for living together and for opening mindness towards other horizons, whether it is during physical education and sport (EPS) or during school (UNSS) sport, the opportunity to practise in nature is a freedom school must encourage.
Education to heritage, which is an essential key in the project progress, is an education to citizenship and is based on cross approaches : education for tolerance, conflict prevention and social cohesion.
