Project Summary

Understanding teaching just as transferring of the knowledge, lack of teamwork skills, no connections between knowledge and real life, no alternatives, conflict between national curriculums and declared innovation ideas were the challenges which partners’ countries were meeting with. Project activities, sharing experience, observing teaching process and teaching environment was great possibility to find ways of solving these challenges. Project activities developed competencies that today’s children of primary age will need for creative solving problems and meeting future challenges. Teachers found connections between formal evaluation and ways to evaluate individual progress and self – evaluation. The most important issue – understanding importance of diversity and possibility to use it as advantage in education. Theme based learning activities brought school closer to real life, increased motivatin and made learning more realistic and joyfull. All partner schools are interested in theme based education and are trying it in practice, but there was realy different level of experience in it. Sharing theoretical knowledge and practical skills iet partners to create succesfull episodes, and to begin developing theme based working system
So the main idea of project was to increase understanding of theme based learning, to try it in practice and to shere results. It was done through activities:
* Organizing theme based learning periods, based on later mentioned themes in all partners’ schools.
* Observing of theme based (integrated) learning process at partner’s school and assisting teachers.
* Creating online toolboxes for themes “Human body”, “Water”, “Space” “Europe”.
* Sharing toolbox materials and observation impressions with local teachers and online
Created ant published Toolboxes are not just materials for working with children, but olso “methodological” part, where teaching methods, planing and evaluating possibilities, environment arangements and diversity issues are described.
Toolboxes for different themes will be important not just as instruments for working in class at the moment, but even as models how to make toolbox for any kind of theme based period.
However, not only toolboxes, but also a changed attitude to education is important. Stereotypical understanding of school as an institution for the transfering knowledge was changed. Sharing of experience and ideas, flexible thinking, communication and cooperation with the pupils, parents and with all teachers are important issues, whitch were discussed and promoted during the project.
