Project Summary
This project arose from the need to educate and improve the sustainability of water in our students, teachers and the rest of the educational community and the general population of our centers.
The partners came into contact due to the realization of teacher training courses and collaboration with eTwinning projects. The student body we wanted to address was students between 13 and 16 years old and teachers from partner centers, whose profile was to be interested in participating in international projects and sensitized to environmental problems.
The objectives of the project were, in addition to promoting the Europeanization of the centers involved, the development of our students’ learning to learn competence and language skills, which would provide them with the necessary skills to collaborate in international work environments.
Of course, the specific objective we wanted to achieve was to reflect on the importance of the sustainable use of water in a global way, for today’s and future society.
Regarding the activities, and despite the handicap of the COVID-19 pandemic, many activities have been carried out within the project, both the transnational teaching-learning activities, collected in the project, as well as other activities carried out in the different centers and collected later on the eTwinning platform, in the project’s TwinSpace.
The transnational activities were:
– Water Resources in the Spanish Southeast I, in March 2018, in Petrer (Alicante) and visits were made to the salt lakes and natural park of La Mata-Torrevieja, visit to the treatment plant of the Mancomunidad del Valle del Vinalopó, visit to the Rambla de Puça near Petrer, guided visit to _ El Marjal floodplain and the Alicante Water Museum, workshops for the creation of infographics about sustainable water management and the urban water cycle.
– Water resources in Northern Europe, June 2019, Wroclaw (Poland), visited the Milicz Ponds Nature Reserve and its interpretation center, Wroclaw Zoo, hydraulic structures connecting the rivers of Worclaw, Interpretation Center of the Agua Hydropolis, workshops in the educational center on water in food and water uses.
– Water Resources in the Spanish Southeast II, April 2021, carried out in a virtual way, the hosts being the IES Isabel Clarà-Simó center. There was a talk by the Global Omniun water company, a visit to the origin of water in the Valencian Community, L’Albufera de Valencia, and a play where the operation of the Water Court was represented.
– Water Resources in Eastern Europe, June 2021. performed virtually, it was hosted by the center of Slobozia (Romania). Visits were made to the natural reserve of the Danube Delta, a virtual visit to Lake Bolboci and its dam, as well as to the karstic area of Ialomita Cave, knowledge of the cultivation of cereals in the area and a visit to the protected area of Vulcaini Noroisi and its mud volcanoes.
The activities at the local level were various and carried out by the 4 centers, always taking into account our different possibilities:
-Creation of the project logo
-Celebration of different commemorative days (water day, Europe, Erasmus Days)
-Photo contest “Water and Hydraulic Works”
-Online conference of the Labaqua company “Microplastics in water”
-Videos of support in the pandemic
– Tales and legends about water
– Design of models for the use of water
– Comic of the Water Cycle.
Local and transnational activities were collected on the eTwinning platform, creating a TwinSpace where we put down results, giving the possibility that it remained open and could be seen by people outside the project.
The results of the project were an increase in linguistic competence, of the learning to learn competente of students and teachers, increasing the “soft skills” of the educational community, in general. Also, projecting the idea of “long-life learning” in teachers, giving place to educational projects and new elective subjects that improve the quality of teaching-learning in our center. Futhermore, producing a shortening of the digital gap between students, teachers and parents, which was present in the time of distance teaching during the period of confinement of the pandemic.
In terms of long-term benefits, we have a greater opening up to Europe and to European projects of all the centers involved. This allows the creation of synergies that increase the quality of teaching and collaboration between other European centers. Collaboration that has already taken place during the development of the project.
