Project Summary

The partnership between our schools- Julius-Stursberg Gymnasium in Germany, Stryn ungdomsskule in Norway and Viljandi Gümnaasium in Estonia – has gradually evolved since 2008. Based on the long experience of participating in different international projects we have decided to continue and apply together for the project about migration with the title “Uniting Through Diversity – Migration In And To Europe”, Dec.2020 – Nov.2022
When thinking about the topic we it will be challenging and educative for us to work on this topic together as the three countries are in so many ways different but at the time similar. Migration is one of key challenges that Europe is facing right now in this fast – changing world and it is important to educate young people to participate more actively in society, raise awareness of cultural and social differences, research the history of migration and present situation in Estonia, Norway and Germany.
Our main objectives in this project are to raise awareness of common EU values, increase civic engagement and participation and social inclusion. With this project we intend to develop critical thinking, raise awareness of social and cultural differences and create tolerance and respect for immigrants and refugees. Other key competences, such as multilingual and digitaal competence will also be developed.
The number of participants per each country is 6 students, aged 13 -17, who have chosen to participate in the Erasmus+ project. These are students who have chosen the subject in the curriculum. In addition, each school has one or two teachers and a project coordinator who will be responsible for preparing for the short-term exchange, informing the participants about the dates and organising all the project activities. All students will be hosts during the project meetings. In each school there are local students who will not travel but participate in the activities of the project and parents who will be responsible for the security of the host student and also for some entertainment during the project.
Each partner school is responsible for organising two short-term exchanges of students, before the meetings, each school involved has the responsibility to prepare for the activities which involve making a PowerPoint Presentations in English on specific aspects in mixed international groups (method: jigsaw technique), present the results to the other groups (method: gallery walk) in English, present portraits of immigrant families (method: interview), carry out role plays, create a Kahoot Quiz.
All participants will improve their foreign language skills, develop critical thinking and become better at addressing cultural and social diversity and in the end have more positive attitude towards European Union values. As the whole world faces different aspects and influence of migration , participation in this project will raise the awareness of the topic among the teachers, students, parents and local community of the involved schools. Teachers will cooperate cross curriculum with teachers of different subjects and in the end the work environment of the involved schools will improve.
Participation in the project creates a common knowledge which support the schools how to better involve and integrate immigrants in the local community and school life.
The results of this project will be widely covered on the social media channels of the participating schools. The results of the project will be shared in the local media, on the municipal level and through subject associations. A memory stick will be created with all the project materials stored on it to disseminate the results of the project among the representatives of the municipality and school council and other teachers who can use it as an easy and handy study material.
